A friend or relative should not sign in as you, accept batches through your account, or shop or deliver under your identity. The account is for the shopper Instacart approved, and sharing can put it at risk of deactivation.
Why Instacart does not allow account sharing
Instacart’s Shopper Terms require you to keep your login details and access codes secret and prohibit impersonating another person through the Shopper App. The terms also place responsibility on the account holder for activity through the app, including activity that was not authorized.
Instacart’s February 4, 2025 platform-integrity post states: “Sharing accounts or using multiple accounts are clear violations of Instacart’s policies and are not tolerated.” That means another person should not use your account even if you trust them or they are helping you with an order.
How identity checks and deactivation affect shoppers
Instacart says it verifies shopper identity, including through real-time selfie checks against a government-issued driver’s license. Its security and integrity controls also include verification prompts, checks for new devices or unexpected locations, automatic logouts, and a requirement that the device accepting a batch complete it. These controls are not a guarantee that every suspicious event will be caught.

What to do if someone accessed your account
First, distinguish unauthorized use from an ordinary sign-in or contact-information problem.
