His publicist reportedly said that most of Barker’s estate was intended for about 40 animal-rights and military charities. That describes a reported estate plan—not a verified account of his assets at death or proof that every planned gift was completed.
What is known about Barker’s estate plan
In September 2023, Entertainment Tonight reported that publicist Roger Neal said the bulk of Barker’s estate would go to 40 animal-rights and military charities. WealthManagement.com later described most of the estate as going to those charities.

These reports support the conclusion that Barker reportedly planned a substantial charitable legacy. Neither provides a probate inventory, a final estate accounting, or verified totals for the gifts received by each beneficiary. An intention to leave assets to charity is not the same as giving away all assets before death.
What the charitable gifts do—and do not—show
A documented lifetime donation
The Associated Press reported that Barker donated $250,000 to Save the Chimps in 2023, attributing the information to the organization. That is evidence of a specific charitable gift. It does not establish that Barker gave away his entire fortune or had no assets remaining.

A broader charitable commitment
Barker was a longtime animal-rights advocate. AP reported that he hosted The Price Is Right from 1972 until his retirement in 2007, and its obituary identified longtime friend Nancy Burnet as a co-executor of his estate. The AP obituary also quoted Burnet describing the animal-welfare work she and Barker had done together. His advocacy and reported estate plan provide context for the charitable reports, but do not establish his finances at death.
What is not established
The available reporting does not establish Barker’s exact net worth when he died, the total value of his estate, whether he had assets left at death, or the final amount each charity received. The reviewed sources also do not provide a verified statement from Barker that he intended to die penniless.
- “He planned to leave most of his estate to charity” is consistent with the publicist’s account reported by Entertainment Tonight.
- “He gave away all his money before he died” is not established by that account or the reported $250,000 gift.
- “He died penniless” is not established by the sources available here.
Online celebrity net-worth figures should not be treated as verified estate values. A net-worth estimate is not a probate inventory, and the reporting cited above does not supply documentation that would confirm an exact figure.

“Gave away his fortune” can refer to different things: donations made during a person’s lifetime, assets designated for beneficiaries in an estate plan, or gifts actually distributed after death. The evidence here includes a reported lifetime donation and an attributed account of an intended charitable estate disposition. It does not establish a completed distribution or show that Barker had no assets when he died.
AP reported that Barker died at his Los Angeles home on August 26, 2023, at age 99. The estate-plan reports that followed describe where most of his estate was reportedly meant to go; they do not settle whether he was penniless.
