Buc-ee’s, Ltd. has an F rating on its Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile. The BBB says the rating reflects, in part, the company’s decision not to participate in its complaint-resolution process. March 2026 news reports counted 88 unanswered complaints, but the BBB’s live pages later showed different totals. The evidence does not establish that “thousands of Americans” were disappointed.
Why does Buc-ee’s have an F rating from the BBB?
The BBB says its rating reflects how it believes a business is likely to interact with customers, based on information in the business’s file. Its factors include complaint history, how promptly and in good faith a business responds, time in business, transparency, licensing, and advertising issues. On Buc-ee’s profile, the BBB says: “The current rating reflects that decision not to participate in the complaint resolution process.” That is the BBB’s explanation of its rating, not a government finding. Did Buc-ee’s respond to the complaints?
The BBB says Buc-ee’s has publicly stated it does not respond to complaints forwarded through the BBB. The BBB’s complaint alert describes consumer reports dating to March 2019 that included difficulty reaching the company by phone, unanswered website inquiries, poor or rude service, and managers who did not resolve issues. These are allegations recorded by the BBB, not findings that every complaint is valid or representative of every store.

Examples in the BBB alert include disputes over merchandise returns, a gas-pump charge when no fuel was dispensed, an accidentally purchased car wash, food, and a disputed charge. The BBB’s linked complaint details page includes the alert and complaint records. BBB complaint details
How many complaints did the BBB say went unanswered?
The figure depends on when and where it was displayed. The Houston Chronicle reported 88 unanswered complaints on March 11, 2026, and CBS News Texas reported the same count on March 12, 2026. When checked for this article, the BBB’s main profile displayed 95 complaints and described them as unanswered, while its linked details page displayed 98 complaints and a complaint-pattern alert. Because the official pages disagreed and these figures can change, neither should be treated as a definitive current total. Check the BBB profile and details page directly for the latest displayed figures.
CBS News Texas also reported that 33 of 38 Buc-ee’s location profiles it reviewed carried F ratings, two had A ratings, two had C- ratings, and one was undetermined. Why doesn’t Buc-ee’s list store phone numbers?
Buc-ee’s FAQ says store phone numbers are unlisted. The company explains that it previously had cashiers answer calls, which diverted them from customers in the store, so it directs comments to its website instead. Buc-ee’s FAQ
That explanation concerns the company’s general contact policy. It does not establish whether every website message receives a response or how quickly, and it is separate from the BBB’s statement about Buc-ee’s participation in the BBB complaint process. The Houston Chronicle reported on March 11, 2026, that Buc-ee’s and the local BBB had not immediately responded to its request for comment; CBS News Texas reported the next day that it had reached out to Buc-ee’s but had not heard back. Those reports describe press inquiries at the time, not every customer’s experience.

Does a BBB F mean Buc-ee’s is bad or unsafe?
No. The BBB grade is an opinion about likely customer interactions based on its business-file information and methodology. It is not a government grade, a product-safety rating, or proof that every complaint is accurate. Its significance here is specifically tied to the BBB’s complaint process and its account of Buc-ee’s nonparticipation.
A separate measure offers a different kind of information. The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) lists Buc-ee’s at 79 for 2025 and 77 for 2026 in its convenience-store satisfaction benchmarks. ACSI says its 2026 results use data collected from October 2025 through September 2026. These values should not be compared numerically with the BBB letter grade: the BBB evaluates business-file factors and complaint handling, while ACSI reports customer-satisfaction benchmarks. Is there evidence that thousands of Americans were disappointed?
The reviewed sources do not provide a survey, audience measure, or other quantified evidence showing that thousands of Americans were disappointed by Buc-ee’s response to the rating.
