The Tata Tiago.ev has the lowest documented starting price among the models compared here: ₹6.99 lakh ex-showroom. The MG Comet EV starts at ₹7,89,800 for an outright purchase, or ₹4.99 lakh under its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, which adds a battery rental charge of ₹3.2 per kilometre. Those prices are not directly comparable: BaaS lowers the upfront amount but adds a recurring cost, and neither figure is an on-road quote.

Cheapest electric cars in India in 2026: prices at a glance

These India-specific prices were checked on 8 October 2026. Ex-showroom prices exclude on-road costs, and final amounts can vary by location, dealer, variant, taxes, insurance, registration, offers and delivery terms. Confirm a current quote locally before budgeting.

Model Published starting price or structure Range evidence What to know
Tata Tiago.ev From ₹6.99 lakh. Autocar India reported the Smart 19 kWh at ₹6.99 lakh, Pure+ 19 kWh at ₹8.49 lakh and Pure+ 24 kWh at ₹9.49 lakh in 2026. A current official range figure for each trim was not established in the sources cited here. Lowest documented starting price in this comparison. Check the trim’s battery size and equipment before deciding whether it is the best value.
MG Comet EV ₹7,89,800–₹10,16,800 ex-showroom for outright purchase; BaaS starts at ₹4.99 lakh plus ₹3.2/km battery rental. MG states 230 km ARAI-certified range and 170–200 km in real-world tests, depending on traffic, air-conditioning use and driving style. Compact four-seater for city use. MG says it does not support DC fast charging.
Citroën ë-C3X From ₹10.49 lakh; BaaS starts at ₹6.89 lakh plus battery EMI of ₹2.26/km. An updated-model range figure was not established in the sources cited here. Citroën states a 315-litre boot. Include the per-kilometre battery charge when comparing its BaaS price.
Mahindra XUV 3XO EV AX5: ₹13.89 lakh; AX7L: ₹14.96 lakh ex-showroom. Mahindra states a 39.4 kWh battery and up to 285 km real-world range. Electric SUV option at a higher starting price. A 7.2 kW wall charger is listed as optional at ₹50,000.

What the lowest price does—and does not—tell you

The Tiago.ev’s ₹6.99 lakh starting price is the lowest documented entry point among these four models, not a guarantee that it will be the least expensive option for every buyer. A base variant may differ in battery size and equipment from a higher trim, while a vehicle’s on-road price depends on local charges and the exact configuration.

Likewise, the Comet’s ₹4.99 lakh BaaS entry price is not an outright-purchase price. Its battery rental adds ₹3.2 for every kilometre driven. Citroën’s BaaS offer also has a per-kilometre battery charge, listed as ₹2.26/km. To compare these plans fairly with outright prices, estimate the recurring fee using your expected driving distance and ownership period, then obtain the full terms and quote from the seller. The figures available here do not establish a comprehensive ownership-cost ranking.

Range figures need their test basis

Range claims are not automatically comparable. MG gives both a certified figure and a manufacturer-described real-world test range; Mahindra’s figure is explicitly described as real-world range. Do not treat either manufacturer’s claim as an independent head-to-head test or assume it is the distance every owner will achieve.

  • MG Comet EV: MG states 230 km ARAI-certified and 170–200 km in real-world tests. It says traffic, AC use and driving style affect the latter.
  • Mahindra XUV 3XO EV: Mahindra states up to 285 km real-world range and a 39.4 kWh battery.
  • Tata Tiago.ev and Citroën ë-C3X: The sources cited here did not establish current official range figures for every Tiago.ev trim or for the updated ë-C3X. Ask the manufacturer or dealer for the exact variant’s current specification rather than filling the gap with an unverified estimate.

For a practical decision, compare the stated range with your regular routes, charging access and driving conditions. Leave a margin rather than planning every trip around a published maximum.

Which budget EV fits your use?

Choose by upfront budget and trim

If minimising the published starting price is the priority, begin with the Tiago.ev’s ₹6.99 lakh entry point. Compare the Smart 19 kWh with the Pure+ trims: Autocar India reported ₹8.49 lakh for Pure+ 19 kWh and ₹9.49 lakh for Pure+ 24 kWh. Confirm current prices, equipment and the exact configuration with Tata before treating those reported trim prices as a live quote.

Choose by space and passenger needs

The Comet is a four-seat, compact city car, so check whether its cabin and luggage capacity suit the people and items you regularly carry. Citroën describes the ë-C3X as having a 315-litre boot. The XUV 3XO EV is an electric SUV, but its higher listed starting prices may place it outside a strict entry-level budget.

Choose by charging routine

Charging support can matter as much as sticker price if your routine includes longer journeys. MG says the Comet does not support DC fast charging. Mahindra lists a 7.2 kW wall charger as an optional ₹50,000 item for the XUV 3XO EV. Confirm what charging equipment is included with the exact vehicle, whether it suits your home electrical setup, installation requirements and connector compatibility. Do not assume a charger listed for one model is suitable for another.

How to compare the real cost before buying

  1. Get the configured ex-showroom price. Ask for the exact variant, battery and included equipment—not just the model’s advertised starting price.
  2. Request an on-road quote for your location. Check the itemised taxes, registration, insurance, dealer charges and any offer conditions. The amount can differ by state, city, dealer and delivery terms.
  3. Separate BaaS from outright purchase. For a BaaS offer, confirm the per-kilometre fee and applicable contract terms, then estimate the recurring cost using your likely distance. Compare it with an outright quote, not with the BaaS headline amount alone.
  4. Check charging equipment and access. Confirm what comes with the car, the price of any optional wall charger, installation needs and where you can charge on routine routes.
  5. Match the vehicle to actual use. Review seats, boot space, route length and the range basis for the exact trim. Ask the dealer about local service access, warranty and financing terms.

These figures are a shortlist, not a complete cost-of-ownership comparison. Electricity tariffs, kilometres driven, insurance, financing, service costs and local charging arrangements can change the financial result; the published information here does not provide enough detail to rank the cars by total ownership cost.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
