Bolt announced on January 10, 2022, that it had raised €628 million—reported at the time as $709 million—at a €7.4 billion valuation, then reported as $8.4 billion. The funding was intended to support expansion of its transportation and delivery platform. The valuation is a historical figure from that announcement, not a current valuation.
What Bolt announced in January 2022
The round was announced on January 10, 2022. TechCrunch reported the primary amounts in euros: €628 million raised at a €7.4 billion valuation. The dollar figures—$709 million and $8.4 billion—were the conversions reported alongside those amounts at the time. TechCrunch’s announcement is the contemporaneous source for the transaction.
The $8.4 billion figure describes Bolt’s valuation in that 2022 financing announcement. It should not be read as an estimate of the company’s value today.
Who invested in the round?
Sequoia Capital and Fidelity Management and Research Company LLC co-led the financing. TechCrunch also named Whale Rock, Owl Rock (a division of Blue Owl), D1, G Squared, Tekne and Ghisallo, as well as unnamed investors.

What Bolt said it would do with the money
Bolt said the funding would help it enter more geographies and bring more consumers and partners onto its multi-service platform. At the time, the company described its businesses as ride-hailing, shared cars and scooters, and restaurant and grocery delivery. Its founder and CEO, Markus Villig, said, “All of our business units are growing.”
Bolt Market’s expansion plans
Bolt Market, then described as a 15-minute grocery delivery service operating in 10 cities, planned to build additional dark stores and expand beyond those cities. Those were plans reported at the time of the financing; the announcement alone does not establish that every target was later achieved.

How Bolt’s reported footprint has changed
The 2022 TechCrunch article described Bolt as serving more than 100 million customers in 45 countries and over 400 cities. Bolt’s investor-relations page, accessed October 8, 2026, describes a broader platform and reports 200M+ customers, 4.5M+ partners, and service in over 50 countries and 850 cities. These are company-reported snapshots from different dates, not audited or methodologically matched measures.

Bolt’s investor-relations page also reports €12bn+ GMV run-rate and €3bn revenue run-rate for December 2025, and says the company has been cashflow positive since 2024. What the valuation does—and does not—tell you
A funding-round valuation is tied to a particular financing event. The $8.4 billion figure was the dollar equivalent reported for Bolt’s €7.4 billion valuation in January 2022. Later company-reported customer, geographic and financial metrics provide context about the business, but they are not a new valuation and cannot show what Bolt would be worth in a subsequent transaction.
