The companies reached a confidential agreement on September 15, before a court ruled on the trademark dispute. The public record described in contemporaneous reporting does not disclose the agreement’s terms.
Which Ohio gas station did Buc-ee’s sue?
The defendant was Coles IP Holdings, LLC, the parent company of Mickey’s—not Beaver’s Mini Mart. The federal case, Buc-ee’s, Ltd. v. Coles IP Holdings, LLC, No. 3:2026cv00414, was filed on February 18, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Court docket and filing coverage
The distinction matters because Buc-ee’s also brought a separate, later case involving Beaver’s Mini Mart in Beavercreek. That dispute concerned a beaver logo; it was not the Mickey’s case. Associated Press background on the separate dispute
What did Buc-ee’s allege about Mickey’s logo?
Buc-ee’s alleged that Mickey’s branding infringed its trademarks. In its complaint, Buc-ee’s pointed to similarities between the designs, including a cartoon animal facing right, wide eyes, a smile, and a round background. Those were the company’s allegations, not findings by a judge. Complaint coverage

The case concerned more than a visual comparison: Buc-ee’s also alleged infringement in the context of the companies’ retail businesses. The court did not decide whether consumers were likely to be confused because the parties settled before a merits ruling. USA TODAY settlement report
How did Mickey’s respond?
Coles IP Holdings disputed Buc-ee’s position and counterclaimed, alleging unfair competition through malicious litigation and trademark infringement. The company argued that consumers could tell its moose apart from Buc-ee’s beaver and called Buc-ee’s claims baseless, according to news reports. Houston Chronicle report on the filings

Its reported shorthand was: “A moose is not a beaver.” That was Coles’ argument, not a court’s conclusion.
How did the lawsuit end?
USA TODAY reported on October 6, 2026, that the companies had reached an agreement on material terms on September 15. The terms were confidential and were not disclosed publicly. The court therefore did not resolve which company’s legal position was stronger. USA TODAY report Houston Chronicle coverage

The Houston Chronicle observed on September 19 that both companies continued to prominently display their logos on their websites. That dated observation does not establish what the settlement requires or whether either logo has been permanently approved.

- Established: The parties reached a confidential agreement, and the case ended without a court deciding the trademark claims on their merits.
- Not publicly established: The agreement’s full terms, whether either company changed or may continue using particular branding, or whether one side prevailed.
For context, the Houston Chronicle reported in 2026 that Mickey’s operated 42 Ohio locations and had been in the state for more than four decades. Those figures describe Mickey’s network and history; they do not determine the outcome of the trademark dispute. Houston Chronicle report
