Lynch’s body was recovered on August 22, 2024, from the wreckage of the Bayesian. The Washington Post attributed confirmation of the recovery to an Italian government official, and Italian news agency ANSA also placed it on August 22 as the recovery operation proceeded.
Where did the yacht sink?
The Bayesian sank in the early hours of August 19, 2024, off Porticello, on Sicily’s northern coast. What is known about the cause of the sinking?
The recovery of Lynch’s body established when and where he was found; it did not establish why the yacht sank or determine responsibility. The Washington Post reported on August 24, 2024, that prosecutors had opened an inquiry into culpable shipwreck and manslaughter and had not identified a suspect at that point. That was an early report, not a final finding or confirmation of the inquiry’s current status.
