How much of Brazil’s 2022/23 soybean crop had been sold?
Safras & Mercado estimated that 35.4% of expected Brazilian soybean production for the 2022/23 crop had been sold by the observation point described in a March 7, 2023 report. A Korean Rural Economic Institute page reproduced the figures from a Thomson Reuters item.

On those reported estimates, the 2022/23 crop’s sales pace was 13.1 percentage points below the prior-year comparison and 16.3 points below the five-year average.
Why were sales behind?
The March 2023 summary said rainfall in some regions slowed fieldwork and the harvest. It identified this as part of the delay; it did not establish rainfall as the sole or comprehensive explanation for farmers’ marketing decisions.

How far ahead had farmers sold the following crop?
Forward sales for the following crop were a separate measure from sales of the 2022/23 crop. Safras & Mercado’s reported estimate put them at 1.6% of expected production, compared with 7.1% at the comparable point a year earlier and a five-year average of 10.6%.

These forward-sales figures should not be combined with the 2022/23 crop’s sales rate: they concern a different crop and a different marketing window.

What the figures do—and do not—show
The comparison shows that the reported 2022/23 sales pace and the following crop’s forward-sales position were both below their stated historical benchmarks at that time. It does not show how Brazilian soybean sales are progressing today. A current comparison would require a newer Safras series with matching crop years, observation dates, and benchmarks.
