Brazil’s Soybean Exports Hit a 2025 Record, Cargonave Data Shows

Brazil exported a record 108.68 million tonnes of soybeans in 2025, up 11.7% from 2024, according to Cargonave data reported by Reuters and carried by Brasilagro. Brazil’s official consolidated foreign-trade series gives a separate 2025 total of 108.2 million tonnes. Those figures come from different series and should not be treated as interchangeable.

How much soy did Brazil export in 2025?

The Cargonave-reported figure was 108.68 million tonnes, a record and an 11.7% increase over 2024, according to reporting published on January 6, 2026. This is a shipment figure attributed to Cargonave, not the number in Brazil’s official consolidated trade table. Reuters/Brasilagro

Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services reports 108.2 million tonnes of soybean exports in its consolidated 2025 foreign-trade data, with an export value of US$43.536 billion and quantity growth of 9.5% year over year. Why are the reported totals different?

The figures come from distinct data series: Cargonave-attributed shipping data and the government’s consolidated foreign-trade table. The sources reviewed do not explain their definitions in enough detail to identify the cause of the difference, so neither figure should be presented as a correction to the other.

Timing also matters when comparing totals. ANEC’s December 16, 2025 report estimated 109,277,115 tonnes for the year based on its shipment schedule. That was an estimate made before the year ended, not a final actual total. ANEC says its numbers are revised retroactively at each month end and may differ from previous reports. How the three 2025 figures compare

Source and timing 2025 soybean quantity What the figure represents
Cargonave, as reported January 6, 2026 108.68 million tonnes Reported annual shipment figure; up 11.7% from 2024. Reuters/Brasilagro
Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, annual consolidated data 108.2 million tonnes Official consolidated export quantity; export value US$43.536 billion and quantity growth 9.5%. Ministry data
ANEC, December 16, 2025 schedule 109,277,115 tonnes Estimate based on scheduled shipments, subject to month-end revisions. ANEC report

For context, ANEC’s comparison table lists 97,294,790 tonnes of soybean shipments for 2024. That schedule-based figure is not the basis for silently reconciling the other sources’ year-over-year rates. ANEC shipment comparison

What drove the record shipments?

The report linked the increase to a record Brazilian harvest and substantial Chinese buying. It also said China avoided U.S. soybeans for much of the year amid tariff tensions. The reporting does not quantify how much each factor contributed, so it supports a broad explanation rather than a precise breakdown. Reuters/Brasilagro

What the record means—and does not mean

The record indicates the scale of Brazil’s soybean exports in 2025, but the shipment total alone does not establish what producers earned, how prices changed, or how much export growth resulted from greater output versus market conditions. The official series supplies a separate export-value figure, but the cited sources do not provide a reconciliation that would make it directly comparable to the Cargonave shipment total.
