The milestone describes one month in 2024; available figures do not establish whether it remains the record through October 2026.
What happened in August 2024?
Boeing delivered 40 commercial aircraft worldwide in August 2024, including 32 737 MAX aircraft. Nine of those MAX deliveries went to Chinese customers, Airfinance Global reported on September 11, 2024. The “six years” comparison refers to the highest monthly China-bound count since 2019—not a six-year total or a record for Boeing deliveries worldwide.
Which customers received the aircraft?
| Chinese customer | Aircraft delivered in August 2024 |
|---|---|
| Xiamen Airlines | Three 737 MAX 8s |
| Shandong Airlines | Two 737 MAX aircraft; subvariant not stated by Airfinance Global |
| Air China | One 737 MAX; subvariant not stated by Airfinance Global |
| China Southern Airlines | One 737 MAX; subvariant not stated by Airfinance Global |
| Shenzhen Airlines | One 737 MAX; subvariant not stated by Airfinance Global |
| Minsheng Financial Leasing | One 737 MAX; subvariant not stated by Airfinance Global |
The recipient list includes a financial lessor as well as airlines, so the nine should be described as deliveries to Chinese customers, rather than exclusively to Chinese airlines. Airfinance Global’s report, “Boeing China deliveries gain momentum”, supplies the monthly count and recipient breakdown.
How does the milestone fit Boeing’s history in China?
In November 2018, Boeing announced delivery of its 2,000th airplane to a Chinese operator: a 737 MAX for Xiamen Airlines. Boeing said it was the eighth MAX to join Xiamen’s fleet at that time. That earlier milestone provides context for the 2024 deliveries, but it is a cumulative China delivery milestone, not a comparable monthly count. Boeing’s 2018 announcement also described a joint completion and delivery center with COMAC in Zhoushan. It said final assembly took place in Renton, Washington, while interior work and exterior painting for MAX aircraft destined for China were to take place at the Chinese facility. Those details describe the arrangement Boeing announced in 2018 and should not be read as a statement of current operations.

Does the available data show a newer China delivery record?
No comparable China-specific 737 MAX delivery series is established by the cited later figures. Boeing’s Q2 2026 results report 171 commercial airplane deliveries in the quarter and 314 in the first half of the year, across all customers, but do not give a China-specific MAX subtotal. Those company-wide totals cannot confirm or overturn the August 2024 China milestone. Boeing’s Q2 2026 results also say the 737 program began transitioning production to 47 aircraft per month and that Boeing anticipated certification of the 737-7 and 737-10 in 2026, with first deliveries in 2027. These were company expectations at the time of the release, not confirmation that those events later occurred.
Boeing’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q says that during the first half of 2026, the 737 program began transitioning from 42 to 47 aircraft per month with FAA concurrence. This describes production rate, not deliveries to China. The filing does not provide a China-specific MAX delivery comparison.

What do China’s aviation figures tell us?
China’s Civil Aviation Administration reported 4,574 commercial aircraft in the country at year-end 2025 and 770.1468 million passenger trips during 2025, up 5.5% year over year. These figures show the scale and activity of the overall market, but they do not identify Boeing aircraft, 737 MAX deliveries, or the manufacturers behind the fleet total. They therefore cannot be used as a proxy for Boeing’s China deliveries. The figures appear in the CAAC’s 2025 civil aviation statistical bulletin, published April 22, 2026.

How to read the six-year comparison
- Time period: It is a monthly comparison: nine deliveries in August 2024, the highest reported monthly count since 2019.
- Geography and recipients: The figure covers aircraft delivered to Chinese customers, including Minsheng Financial Leasing.
- Aircraft scope: The nine are 737 MAX aircraft, not all Boeing aircraft delivered to China.
- What it does not prove: The available later Boeing and CAAC totals do not show whether a later month exceeded nine China-bound MAX deliveries.
