Blue Diamond Resorts said it had opened an internal investigation after two Saskatchewan families told CBC they were pressured to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) while seeking medical help during a December 2024 stay at Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. The families said they refused. The reviewed reporting does not establish the cause of their illnesses or document a final investigation finding.
What the Saskatchewan families said happened
CBC reported on January 16, 2025, that two Saskatchewan families became ill during a December 2024 holiday at Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun. Their accounts, as reported by CBC and republished by Cobra Magazine, are allegations, not independently established findings.
Jesslyn Schigol’s account
Schigol said her husband was vomiting and she sought medical help. She said she was told she had to sign an NDA before a doctor would be sent.
Allison Field’s account
Field said she and members of her family became ill, and that resort staff pressed her to sign an NDA as she was preparing to leave for a hospital. She said her young son was later hospitalized. Both families said they refused to sign.

Resort ownership and brand context
Blue Diamond Resorts and Marriott announced in 2022 that Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun would be owned and managed by Blue Diamond and included in Marriott’s Autograph Collection and all-inclusive portfolio. Their announcement described a planned capacity of 1,049 rooms; that is a historic announced figure, not confirmation of the resort’s current room inventory. The announcement was published via GlobeNewswire. The reporting identifies Blue Diamond—not Marriott—as the company representative making the initial investigation statement.

How to distinguish the 2024 allegations from later illness reports
A separate PAX report dated February 23, 2026 covered later gastrointestinal illness reports involving Canadian travelers who stayed at the resort. It said test results from other travelers who spoke with CTV confirmed E. coli, but did not establish the scope or source of an outbreak.
Peel Public Health told PAX that seven passengers were assessed after illness reports during an international flight and declined hospital transport. The agency said there was no evidence of risk to the broader public. WestJet Group said it was monitoring guest reports and contacting the hotel. These later reports concern a separate period and do not establish a connection to the Saskatchewan families’ December 2024 illnesses or to the NDA allegations.
