When was Black Friday 2024?
Black Friday 2024 was Friday, November 29. Retailers used “Black Friday” to describe a longer promotional season: some deals started in early November, and schedules extended through Cyber Monday, December 2.
When did Black Friday deals start?
Retailer announcements show that the start depended on the store, the shopping channel, and sometimes membership status. Walmart and Target published the following schedules:

What stores had Black Friday deals?
Walmart
Walmart announced three events: two Black Friday events and an online Cyber Monday event. Its first-event examples included a 65-inch Samsung DU69 4K Smart TV for $398, labeled a “Special Buy,” as well as an iPhone 13, Beats Solo 3 headphones, a Lenovo laptop, Squishmallows, a Hot Wheels set, a LEGO Friends set, a restored MacBook Pro, and a Shark stick vacuum. Target
Target described discounts across small appliances, technology, toys, clothing, shoes, home décor, bedding, holiday trees, and lights. It also announced Black Friday in-store exclusives: Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Book and The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology on CD and vinyl. Target said the book, CD, and vinyl would also appear on its website and app beginning early November 30, while supplies lasted. Target’s November 12 announcement
What price-match terms did Target announce?
Target’s Holiday Price Match Guarantee ran from November 7 through December 24, 2024. The retailer said it would match select competitor pricing within 14 days of purchase. What did shoppers plan to do, and what were the reported results?
In a survey conducted November 1–7, 2024, by Prosper Insights & Analytics for the National Retail Federation (NRF), 183.4 million people planned to shop in stores or online from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday. NRF reported that 131.7 million planned to shop on Black Friday, equivalent to 72% of those surveyed. The survey included 8,135 adults and had a margin of error of ±1.1 percentage points. These are reported intentions, not a final count of shoppers. NRF’s November 14, 2024 release
NRF later reported that U.S. 2024 holiday core retail sales totaled $994.1 billion, up 4% from 2023. Citing U.S. Census Bureau data, NRF defined the holiday season as November 1–December 31 and excluded auto dealers, gasoline stations, and restaurants from the core retail total. The figure was not adjusted for inflation. NRF also reported online and other non-store sales of $296.7 billion, up 8.6%.
