On June 4, 2025, the U.S. government announced that it had seized approximately 145 darknet and conventional internet domains associated with BidenCash, a marketplace for stolen payment-card data and personal information. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said the domains would be redirected to a server controlled by U.S. law enforcement and that associated cryptocurrency funds had been seized under court authorization.

What was BidenCash?

The DOJ described BidenCash as an online marketplace that made it easier to buy and sell stolen credit-card information and related personal data. It also offered compromised credentials that could be used to access computers without authorization. The name does not establish any connection to President Joe Biden; the DOJ release does not explain how the marketplace got its name.

According to the DOJ, BidenCash began operating in March 2022. Administrators charged a fee for each transaction. The department reported that the marketplace had more than 117,000 customers, trafficked over 15 million payment-card numbers and pieces of personally identifiable information, and generated more than $17 million in revenue during its operations. Those figures are estimates reported by the DOJ, not independently audited figures in the release.

How many BidenCash domains were seized?

The DOJ announced the seizure of approximately 145 darknet and traditional internet domains. The action also covered cryptocurrency funds associated with the marketplace, which the department said were seized under court authorization. The release does not state the amount of cryptocurrency seized.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia on June 4, 2025. The DOJ said the seized domains would no longer operate as marketplace sites and would instead redirect to a server controlled by U.S. law enforcement.

What information did the marketplace sell?

The DOJ listed stolen credit-card numbers, expiration dates, Card Verification Value (CVV) numbers, account-holder names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. It also described compromised credentials that could enable unauthorized access to computers.

The department said BidenCash published 3.3 million individual stolen credit cards for free between October 2022 and February 2023 as a way to promote the service. That free publication was distinct from the marketplace’s paid transactions, for which administrators charged fees.

What happens when someone visits a seized BidenCash domain?

Under the DOJ’s account, the seized domains redirect visitors to a U.S. law-enforcement-controlled server rather than operating as BidenCash marketplace sites. The announcement describes the intended effect of the seizure; it does not establish the later status of every domain or provide a current domain-by-domain check.

Who took part in the investigation?

The DOJ identified the U.S. Secret Service’s Frankfurt Resident Office, the Secret Service’s Cyber Investigative Section, and the FBI Albuquerque Field Office as investigators. It thanked the Dutch National High Tech Crime Unit, The Shadowserver Foundation, and Searchlight Cyber for assistance. The announcement does not detail each organization’s role or provide a complete list of international participants.

What the announcement does not establish

  • It does not identify named BidenCash operators as arrested or charged.
  • It does not state the amount of cryptocurrency seized or describe the later status of forfeiture proceedings.
  • It reports scale figures attributed to the DOJ, rather than independently verified totals.
