The Poin2 Chromebook 14 paired a 14-inch Full HD touchscreen and useful built-in ports with a budget price in its 2019 review. Today, its chief drawback is the short remaining support window: Google lists the related “Chromebook 14T” through June 2027, with an opt-in marker. That makes the exact device’s update schedule—and whether you need Android apps—central to deciding if a used or refurbished unit is worth buying.
What the Poin2 Chromebook 14 includes
Poin2’s official specifications describe a 14-inch Full HD IPS multi-touch Chromebook with a MediaTek MT8173 quad-core ARM processor, 4GB of LPDDR3 memory and 32GB of eMMC storage. Wireless connectivity is 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.
The listed ports are USB Type-C with charging, USB 3.0, HDMI, a combined audio jack and an SD card reader. The manufacturer lists a 47Wh battery and rates it for up to 12 hours; that is a manufacturer claim, not a measured result in the 2019 review. The product page also mentions 100GB of Google Drive for two years, a historical bundle that should not be assumed to come with a current listing.
LT0301-01US appears in contemporaneous discussion of the product, but that model number is not stated on Poin2’s current specification page. Check the device label and listing configuration rather than relying on the product name alone.

How it performed in the 2019 review
Chrome Unboxed’s review, published June 26, 2019, praised the aluminum-finished top, bottom and keyboard deck for making the laptop feel more substantial than its budget price suggested. The reviewer described the 14-inch, 16:9 IPS touchscreen as having good viewing angles and acceptable brightness in most conditions.
The keyboard was average and lacked backlighting. On the tested unit, the trackpad surface remained smooth but the click felt unusually stiff; the reviewer noted it might have been specific to that sample. These observations describe one review unit, not a guarantee about every used device.

Ports and everyday work
USB-C, USB-A, full-size HDMI, a full-size SD card reader, a headphone/microphone jack and a Kensington lock were cited as strengths. HDMI can help with a projector, while the SD reader is convenient for transferring camera-card files without a separate adapter.
The reviewer found ordinary browser work acceptable when the workload stayed modest. Many open tabs and windows could bog the processor down, though some Android games performed better than expected in that reviewer’s experience. With 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, this is better suited to light browsing and basic tasks than heavy multitasking. The gaming observation is not a benchmark or a promise of compatibility with current apps.

The main catch: ChromeOS update support
In 2019, the reviewer warned that the model had already been on the market for about a year and a half and estimated three to three-and-a-half years of support remained. That was an estimate at the time, not the device’s current support date.
Google’s Auto Update policy currently lists “Chromebook 14T” under Poin2 through June 2027, marked with an asterisk. The product name and Google’s “14T” label are not an exact identity match on Poin2’s official specifications page, so do not assume every listing called Chromebook 14 follows that schedule.

Google says some eligible Chromebooks released before 2021 must opt in to extended updates. Those updates provide security, performance and stability updates, but opting in removes Android app and Google Play Store support. If Play Store access matters, confirm the implications before enabling extended updates.
Check the individual device before paying
- On the Chromebook, open Settings → About ChromeOS → Additional details → Update schedule.
- Read the schedule shown for that specific device and check whether extended updates are available or already enabled.
- Decide whether the remaining support period and any loss of Android or Play Store access fit your needs.
Google identifies the device-specific schedule as the reliable way to gauge remaining official support. A Chromebook past its final update may still turn on and run, but it no longer receives ChromeOS and browser security updates, bug fixes or new features. Google’s guidance on extended updates and using or upgrading an old Chromebook explains the policy and the consequences of an older device.

Does the “under $300” claim still apply?
Chrome Unboxed described the laptop as selling new on Amazon for $250–$300 in its 2019 review; the accompanying video referred to roughly $250–$260. Those are historical prices, not a current price survey or evidence of present availability. The “best under $300” wording was the reviewer’s value judgment in that market, not a current ranking.
For a used or refurbished listing, weigh the actual price against the device’s condition, the update schedule and your intended workload. A low asking price does not make a Chromebook a good value if support is nearly over or the configuration cannot handle the work you need.
Who should consider it?
- Potential fit: someone seeking a basic, inexpensive machine for light browser use who values a Full HD touchscreen, HDMI and an SD card reader, and has confirmed the device’s update status.
- Poor fit: someone who needs sustained multitasking, substantial local storage, a backlit keyboard, or dependable long-term ChromeOS support.
- Check carefully: buyers who rely on Android apps or the Play Store, because opting into extended updates removes access to them.
When comparing it with another Chromebook, look beyond the screen and asking price: check remaining official updates and the effect of opting in, memory and storage, keyboard and trackpad condition, and whether its built-in ports save you from buying adapters.
