In a report published on 16 October 2012, ITPro said Softcat had appointed Colin Brown, a former Microsoft UK board member, as deputy managing director. The announcement records the appointment at that time; it does not establish Brown’s current role or later career.

Brown joined Softcat after four years as general manager of Microsoft’s UK services organisation.
Computacenter
Before Microsoft, Brown spent 20 years at Computacenter. His roles included four years as chief executive of its German business and five years as government sector director.

Softcat’s position in 2012
ITPro reported that Softcat had doubled its headcount and turnover over the preceding two years, and attributed much of that growth to the company’s focus on employee and customer satisfaction. The report gave no absolute figures, so the claim should be understood as a description of Softcat’s growth as reported in 2012—not as a current statistic.
What Brown and Softcat’s managing director said
Brown described his departure from Microsoft as a move toward a new challenge and said he looked forward to helping Softcat build on its growth. Martin Hellawell, then Softcat’s managing director, praised Brown’s experience managing growth organisations, humility and people skills.
