Reading FC’s sale to Redwood Holdings Limited completed on 14 May 2025, with English Football League clearance, ending Dai Yongge’s ownership. The deal covered all of the club’s shares, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground, according to BBC Sport’s completion report.
What happened in the Reading FC takeover?
Reading FC announced on 3 May 2025 that it had agreed a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the stadium and training ground were included, subject to final legal technicalities. That announcement marked an agreement, not yet a completed transfer.
BBC Sport reported on 14 May 2025 that the takeover had completed and received EFL clearance. Redwood acquired 100% of Reading Football Club’s shareholding, as well as Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground. The distinction matters: the 3 May announcement described a sale in principle; the 14 May report confirmed completion.
Who owns Reading FC now?
The acquiring company, Redwood Holdings Limited, is a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, which is owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. BBC Sport’s account of the completion announcement said both men joined Reading’s board and Couhig became chairman.

The club statement carried in that report described Redwood as “ambitious and dedicated towards the club returning to its rightful place within the English football pyramid” while committing to honesty, transparency and financial sustainability. That is the owners’ stated ambition, not an independently verified forecast of the club’s sporting or financial prospects.
Why was the change of ownership significant?
The sale followed a difficult period under Dai Yongge. BBC Sport reported that Reading incurred a total of 18 points in EFL deductions during Yongge’s ownership, alongside multiple financial-rule and payment issues. The reported total reflects several issues; it should not be read as the penalty for one breach.

The route to the completed deal was not straightforward. Couhig’s earlier takeover attempt collapsed in September 2024. A separate buyer process followed, and in October 2024 the club said it had entered a period of exclusivity with a potential purchaser. At that time Reading also said an EFL registration embargo related to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. Those were developments in the earlier sale process, not statements about the club’s current status.

On 2 January 2026, BBC Sport reported that Couhig denied claims that Reading planned to sell Bearwood Park or downgrade its academy. He said: “I want to be absolutely clear with you: those claims are categorically untrue.” This records his response at that time; it does not independently establish the assets’ status or the club’s full ownership and financial position on 8 October 2026.

The available reporting therefore supports a clear answer about the 2025 takeover, but not a definitive claim about every subsequent ownership or asset development. For the latest position beyond the dated January 2026 statement, readers should look for newer club announcements or reporting.
