Immutable said more than 100,000 players had preregistered and announced launch-period card and rewards offers; those announcements do not establish that the offers remain available today.
What Shardbound is
Shardbound is a digital multiplayer collectible tactics game set in a fantasy world. Players build card decks and make tactical moves on a board, with positioning, terrain and unit abilities central to play. Despite the “Web3” framing, the launch coverage describes a digital PC game, not a physical trading-card release. Its storefront listing identifies it as free to play and notes optional in-game purchases, including random items. That distinction matters to prospective players: downloading the game and buying optional digital content are separate decisions.
When and where the Open Beta launched
Immutable announced on October 2, 2024 that the Open Beta would launch October 9. On October 9, it said the beta was available worldwide on Steam and the Epic Games Store. The two storefronts were the announced launch routes; check their live pages for present availability and account requirements rather than assuming the 2024 launch announcement describes current service. This was not Shardbound’s first beta access. A Limited Beta had opened to everyone on the Epic Games Store in June 2024. The June update discussed faction battle passes, card and pack purchasing options, card-leveling changes, new card art, and interface, matchmaking and gameplay updates. What preregistered players were promised
Immutable reported more than 100,000 preregistrations in its 2024 launch announcement. This is the company’s reported preregistration figure, not an independently audited count of players or evidence of how many people later played.

The announcement said each preregistered player would receive three playable cards: one Rare, one Epic and one Legendary. It also described a partnership with Immutable’s Main Quest rewards program: completing quests could earn Gems, which the announcement said were redeemable for IMX. What is known about availability now
Current storefront pages use Early Access or Open Beta language, but that wording alone does not establish that the game is playable, actively maintained or still in beta. Steam says the last developer update was over 17 months ago and displays a planned full-launch date before the end of 2024, a date that has passed.
