Yes. The bodies of entrepreneur Mike Lynch and Morgan Stanley International chair Jonathan Bloomer were recovered after the Bayesian sank off Sicily on 19 August 2024. Seven people died; the last missing person, Lynch’s daughter Hannah, was recovered on 23 August. The recoveries are complete, but the cause and any legal responsibility were not finally determined in the sources available by 8 October 2026.
Who died in the Bayesian sinking?
The UK-registered sailing yacht foundered in high winds about 0.5 nautical miles southeast of Porticello, Sicily. There were 22 people aboard. Seven died and 15 survived or were rescued, according to the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB).

When were the bodies recovered?
Searchers recovered Hannah Lynch’s body on 23 August 2024, five days after the sinking. She was the last person missing, completing recovery of all seven people who died. The Italian Coast Guard announced the recovery.
What is known about how the yacht sank?
The MAIB’s interim safety report, published on 15 May 2025, describes the yacht being knocked over by extreme wind and heeling rapidly to starboard to about 90 degrees. Under the report’s assumed loss condition, the yacht could not return to an even keel after heeling beyond its calculated 70.6-degree angle of vanishing stability. These figures describe the report’s analysis and assumptions, not universal specifications for yachts.

The MAIB cautioned that the interim account is indicative, not a final determination. It said: “Until the investigative work is complete, and the final report published, the contents of this interim report should be taken as indicative of the circumstances of the accident.” The branch investigates marine accidents to improve safety and prevent future accidents; its report is not a criminal verdict.
What happened to the wreck and the investigations?
The Bayesian’s hull was raised from the sea in June 2025 and made available for further investigation. Raising the wreck provided an opportunity for additional examination; it did not, by itself, establish a final cause or responsibility.

Italian prosecutors opened an investigation into possible responsibility, including possible manslaughter and shipwreck offenses. An investigation, or a person being investigated, is not a finding of guilt. The sources available by 8 October 2026 do not establish a final Italian finding on cause or responsibility.
