Bayer’s next-generation weed-management announcement is Vyconic, a soybean trait package designed to tolerate five herbicide active ingredients: dicamba, glufosinate, mesotrione, 2,4-D and glyphosate. Bayer planned a North American introduction for the 2027 planting season, but the trait does not authorize use of every formulation containing those ingredients; each application must comply with the product label and applicable local approvals.
What is Vyconic?
Vyconic is a soybean seed trait package, not a new herbicide. Bayer announced it on March 3, 2025, at Commodity Classic in Denver, describing it as a way to give growers more options for integrated weed management. The added tolerances to mesotrione and 2,4-D distinguish it from Bayer’s previous soybean trait generation, according to the company. Bayer’s U.S. announcement names Palmer amaranth and waterhemp among the broadleaf weeds the system may help address. Bayer Canada’s announcement also mentions kochia and fleabane. These are Bayer’s product claims, not independent proof of field performance against those weeds.
Which herbicides can Vyconic soybeans tolerate?
- Dicamba
- Glufosinate
- Mesotrione
- 2,4-D
- Glyphosate
Tolerance is a characteristic of the soybean trait; it is not blanket permission to spray any product containing one of the listed ingredients over the crop. Bayer says not all formulations are being pursued for in-crop approval. Use only products whose labels specifically permit the intended crop, application and timing, and that are approved in the state or jurisdiction where they will be used. Check current local requirements before planning an application. Bayer’s U.S. notice sets out this label qualification.
When and where does Bayer plan to introduce Vyconic?
Bayer’s March 2025 announcements anticipated introduction in the United States and Canada for the 2027 planting season. Its pipeline page, updated in July 2026, describes North American introduction beginning in 2027 and Latin American countries planned for 2028. These are company-planned windows, not confirmation that seed or every herbicide use will be available in every market on a particular date.

- High Yield Bush Growth: midori giant edamame seeds form 24-36 inch nitrogen-fixing bushes, rewarding vegetable garden growers in USDA 3-9 with crunchy pods rich in complete protein.
- Fast Germination: soybean seeds for planting sprout in 5-10 days at 70-90 °F, letting home garden beginners harvest tender edamame in just 80 days while heirloom seeds thrive in loamy soil.
- Nutrient-Rich Snack: soy beans deliver sweet nutty flavor and buttery texture; boil or freeze for soy-protein snacks, soy bean seeds to plant are ideal for survival gardening fans seeking clean non gmo edamame.
- Easy Direct Sow: edamame seeds for planting outdoors need 1" depth and 12" spacing, no trellis required; bush habit suits containers or raised beds, making veggie seeds ideal for small spaces.
- Disease-Smart Cultivation: edamame seeds to plant resist common pests when grown in full sun and evenly moist soil; gardening kit growers mulch to conserve water and pick bright green pods before they yellow.
There has been a regulatory milestone in Canada: Bayer’s 2025 annual report, published in 2026, says it received initial Canadian registrations in March 2026 for mesotrione use over the top and for pre-plant burndown as part of Vyconic technology. That report does not establish approval for every trait component, product formulation or application pattern. Bayer Annual Report 2025
What has Bayer said about yield and weed resistance?
In a September 15, 2026 pipeline update, Bayer said elite-performing Vyconic varieties demonstrated a yield increase of more than two bushels per acre. The cited update does not provide trial locations, experimental design, comparator details, sample size or underlying data, so the company-reported figure should not be treated as a yield guarantee or generalized to all varieties and farms. - Certified seed for maximum growth and attractant
- 1 bag (5 lbs) plants approximately 1/10 acre
- High protein and highly preferred forage for deer
- Non-GMO - ideal for mixing with other food plot seeds
Bayer frames having multiple herbicide options as a potential aid to proactive resistance management. The trait itself does not prevent weeds from developing resistance. Its value depends on fitting permitted products into a broader program that rotates crops and modes of action and uses other appropriate stewardship practices. Bayer’s product and pipeline overview emphasizes this broader approach.

- Safe and Sustainable - Our operation is fully solar powered, and Sow Right Seeds has taken the Safe Seed Pledge to sell only fresh Non-GMO heirloom seeds for you and your family.
- Permitted uses: Confirm which specific formulations and application timings are labeled and approved locally, rather than assuming all five ingredients can be used over the crop.
- Availability: Check local seed supply and approvals against Bayer’s planned introduction windows.
- Weed spectrum and field history: Match a program to the weeds present and the resistance history of the field.
- Variety fit: Evaluate maturity, disease and standability traits, alongside yield evidence relevant to the variety and region.
- Stewardship: Consider how the system fits crop rotation and mode-of-action rotation over time.
The available announcements do not provide a complete competitor comparison or a variety-by-variety trial dataset, so they do not establish a single best system for all farms.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- HEIRLOOM VARIETY & HIGH YIELD: Outsidepride soy bean seeds is a robust heirloom strain known for its high yield, producing over 3 bushels per acre more than the popular Manokin variety, making it a valuable choice for maximizing harvest output. This variety is perfect for outdoor gardening enthusiasts looking to optimize their yard space.
- RICH IN PROTEIN & OIL WITH VERSATILE USES: Containing about 18% oil and 38% protein, this soybean variety is perfect for producing high-quality soy bean oil and protein-rich meal. These soybeans can be processed into a wide range of products, including soy milk powder, soy flour, soy protein, tofu, and various industrial non-food products, showcasing its versatility. Ideal for making various soy-based meals such as edamame snacks.
- OPTIMAL PLANTING GUIDELINES FOR MAXIMUM YIELD: For best results, plant soybean seeds at a depth of 0.75 to 1.5 inches, with row spacing between 7.5 and 15 inches, depending on soil type and tillage. This ensures uniform seed placement and optimal growth, adapting well to midwestern states and capturing a significant percentage of non-GMO acres.
- HIGH-PROTEIN ANIMAL FEED: The high-protein fiber left after oil extraction is ideal for animal feed, particularly for poultry and swine industries, which consume over half of the processed soybean meal. This meal is also crucial for cattle, other farm animals, and pets, ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients for growth and development. A great addition to feed mixes for cowpeas and other legumes.
- ECONOMIC AND NUTRITIONAL: As the most economically important bean globally, soybeans provide essential vegetable protein for millions and are key ingredients in hundreds of chemical products. A 60-pound bushel of our soybeans seed yields about 11 pounds of crude soybean oil and 47 pounds of soybean meal. Beneficial for producing shelf-stable goods for long-term use.
