TMTG operates Truth Social, and its later financial results show both very small revenue and large losses, though much of its second-quarter 2026 net loss came from unrealized investment declines rather than the social platform alone.
What the 2024 headline was describing
Victor Tangermann’s September 18, 2024, Futurism article connected a sharp fall in TMTG shares with the approaching end of Donald Trump’s post-merger lockup period and weak financial results. At the time, the company had reported a $344 million loss for the first half of 2024, while costs rose from $9.8 million to $118.5 million over the same period, according to Futurism’s account of the company’s earnings report. Those figures and the stock framing belong to that 2024 reporting period; they do not establish DJT’s price or direction today. Read the September 2024 report.
The same article said Trump held 114.5 million shares, or 57% of existing stock, and that the six-month lockup could expire as soon as the next day. Those, too, are historical claims tied to the 2024 story, not a current ownership or trading-restriction update.
What the company’s later results show
TMTG’s second-quarter 2026 results provide a more recent financial snapshot. The Associated Press reported $1.7 million in revenue and a $238 million net loss for the quarter. The size of that net loss needs context: AP attributed much of it to unrealized declines in the value of the company’s bitcoin, Cronos and related holdings. An unrealized investment decline affects reported earnings but is not, by itself, evidence that the social network generated an equivalent operating cash loss.

AP separately reported a $164 million operating loss excluding certain items in Q2 2026, compared with $44 million a year earlier. That measure is distinct from the $238 million net loss: the former is an adjusted operating comparison, while the latter includes investment-related effects. Reading the figures together suggests that the company had substantial operating losses as well as volatile investment results; neither number alone measures the performance of Truth Social as a standalone product. See the Associated Press report.
What Truth Social’s parent company does
Truth Social is operated by Trump Media & Technology Group, a publicly traded company whose common stock trades under the symbol DJT, according to its SEC filing. The company’s business and reported results should not be treated as interchangeable with the performance of the social-media service alone. The company’s 2026 Form 10-Q describes Truth API, launched in August 2026, as a business-to-business data-feed subscription that licenses access to publicly available posts from certain Truth Social accounts. Read TMTG’s Form 10-Q.
AP reported CEO Kevin McGurn’s statements that Truth API had ten customers and charged $60,000 to $100,000 per month. These are management-reported commercial details, not independently audited recurring revenue figures. The company’s filing describes the service’s structure, but the customer count and monthly pricing should remain attributed to AP’s account of McGurn’s comments.
Does this mean Truth Social is in financial trouble?
The available figures support a cautious conclusion: TMTG has reported very low revenue alongside large losses, and its 2026 results include significant investment-value volatility. They do not establish that Truth Social itself caused the full net loss or that the company is insolvent. The distinction matters for a reader assessing the business: a social platform’s monetization is one question; the parent company’s investments, operating costs and overall finances are others.

In 2024, University of Florida business professor Jay Ritter offered a sharply skeptical opinion to Fortune, reproduced by Futurism: “The only bull case for the stock that I can think of is the greater fool theory of investing.” He added that an investor could make money on an overvalued stock by finding someone willing to buy it at a higher price. This is Ritter’s opinion, not a company fact, investment consensus or definitive valuation finding.
