As of August 18, 2026, Verizon’s iPhone 17 deals depend on your model, line, plan, trade-in, and account eligibility. August deal coverage reports discounts of up to about $600 on iPhone 17e, $830 on iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, and $1,000 on iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Treat those as advertised maximums, not guaranteed prices: Verizon usually delivers its largest discounts as monthly bill credits over a 36-month term. The deal is most likely to make sense if you already want Verizon service and can keep the qualifying plan for the full term.
Verizon iPhone 17 deal snapshot
The amounts below are reported public offers, not promises that every customer will see the same promotion. The live, logged-in Verizon offer controls. Verizon’s launch announcement advertised up to $1,100 off select iPhone 17 models with eligible plans and trade-ins, but that launch-era maximum is not evidence that the same offer is universally available now.
| Model | Reported offer as of August 2026 | What to check | Potential fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17e | Up to about $600 off, according to Tom’s Guide. Verizon’s public free-phone listing shows a $599.99 retail price and $16.66 per month for 36 months at 0% APR. | Whether your account qualifies for the full credit, and whether a new line, trade-in, or particular plan is required. | Buyers seeking the least expensive iPhone 17-family model. |
| iPhone 17 | Up to about $830 off, according to Tom’s Guide. | Line status, eligible unlimited plan, qualifying trade-in, and credit term. | Shoppers who want the standard model rather than Pro features. |
| iPhone Air | Up to about $830 in current deal coverage; Verizon’s launch announcement advertised up to $1,100 for select trade-ins and eligible plans. The applicable amount depends on the live offer. | Confirm the specific Air promotion at checkout rather than assuming either maximum applies. | Buyers who value a thin, light design. |
| iPhone 17 Pro | Up to about $1,000 in current deal coverage; Verizon’s launch announcement advertised up to $1,100 for select trade-ins and eligible plans. | Model and storage, required plan, trade-in, and any watch-bundle service cost. | People who want the Pro camera system and already value the qualifying plan. |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | Up to about $1,000, according to Tom’s Guide. | Whether the credit covers the selected capacity; a higher storage tier can leave a balance. | Buyers who want the largest display and battery. |
Verizon’s iPhone offers page and your My Verizon account are better places to confirm eligibility than a generic headline. The amounts can change after August 18, 2026.
Which offer is best for each iPhone?
iPhone 17e: lowest entry cost
The 17e is the budget choice if you want a new iPhone and do not need Pro camera features. Verizon publicly lists it at $599.99 retail, or $16.66 monthly for 36 months at 0% APR. Deal coverage has reported up to about $600 off, but that maximum may depend on a qualifying promotion. A phone credit does not cover service, taxes, activation charges, accessories, or protection.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- When you receive the phone, insert a SIM card from a compatible carrier. Then, turn it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and follow the on screen prompts to activate service.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charger and charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
iPhone 17: standard-model balance
Current deal coverage reports up to about $830 off. Verizon also announced an iPhone 17 “on us” offer for switchers opening a new line on any myPlan without a trade-in at launch. Treat that as historical unless the live offer confirms it. The current checkout—not the launch announcement—determines whether that route is available.
iPhone Air: confirm the exact promotion
Public coverage has reported an offer around $830, while Verizon’s launch announcement advertised up to $1,100 for select trade-ins and eligible plans. Those figures describe different promotion contexts, not a guaranteed current discount. Compare the Air’s financed installment and monthly credit with the plan cost you would pay anyway; a large phone subsidy can be offset by a plan you do not otherwise need.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: premium models, bigger conditions
August deal coverage reports up to about $1,000 off the Pro and Pro Max. Verizon’s launch announcement advertised up to $1,100 for select trade-ins and eligible unlimited plans. A maximum credit may cover the base model but not a more expensive storage configuration. Verizon also announced an iPhone 17 Pro bundle with an Apple Watch SE 3 or Series 11 “on us,” or up to $500 off an Apple Watch Ultra 3, on Unlimited Ultimate; the watch requires a service plan. Count that service cost before treating the bundle as savings.
How a “free iPhone” promotion works
Most Verizon free or discounted device offers are not an instant price reduction. You finance the phone, then Verizon applies promotional credits to your bill over the offer term, commonly 36 months. Those credits offset some or all of the installment only while you meet the promotion’s conditions. Verizon says credits may take one to two billing periods to appear. Its device-deals FAQ explains the general rules.

- Free phone installment: A monthly credit may offset the monthly device payment, in full or in part.
- Not free service: You still pay the mobile plan and any required watch or tablet service.
- Not necessarily free at checkout: Taxes, activation or upgrade fees, and shipping may still apply.
- Not automatically an early upgrade: A promotional credit does not by itself grant an early-upgrade option.
If you leave Verizon, cancel the line, or move to a plan that makes the promotion ineligible, remaining device payments may become due and future credits may stop. Do not assume unused credits will transfer to another carrier. Verizon-financed iPhones are carrier-locked until paid in full, according to Apple’s Verizon-specific iPhone purchase page.
New customer, existing customer, or adding a line?
Switching to Verizon
A switcher may be offered a new-line promotion, sometimes with a port-in condition or a trade-in. Verizon says new customers can trade in a phone from another carrier; it need not have been active on Verizon. Verify whether the offer requires you to port your number, activate a particular plan, or meet any other checkout condition. Do not assume a device credit pays off an old carrier’s balance unless the promotion explicitly says so.
Upgrading an existing Verizon line
Existing customers may see upgrade offers with different trade-in or plan requirements from new-line deals. Some Verizon promotions require the trade-in device to have been active on any Verizon account line for 60 consecutive days. The rule applies only to offers that specify it; check the terms attached to the offer shown in My Verizon.
Adding a line
An added line can qualify for a new-line promotion, but its monthly service cost belongs in the comparison. Do not treat the phone credit as a saving if you would not otherwise add that line.

Check the plan before counting the discount
Not every iPhone promotion works on every unlimited plan. Some require a named plan, and changing plans before the credits finish can stop them. Verizon says current trade-in offers for Unlimited Plus customers appear in My Verizon; incompatible existing promotions may cancel when a customer changes plans. Review the Unlimited Plus FAQ and your account’s specific offer before switching.
- Sign in to My Verizon and open the phone upgrade or add-a-line offer for the intended line.
- Select the exact iPhone model and storage, then enter the trade-in model and condition if applicable.
- Read the offer terms for required plan, line status, trade-in value, monthly credit, and credit duration.
- Compare the required plan with your current plan, including any existing discounts or device credits that could be lost.
- Check the final checkout summary for taxes, activation or upgrade charges, and any required watch service.
Verizon advertises an Auto Pay discount of up to $10 per month on eligible Unlimited Plus enrollment using a bank account or Verizon Visa Card. Confirm eligibility and the amount for your account rather than including it automatically.
Calculate the real 36-month cost
Compare the whole service-and-device cost, not just the phone headline. Use the actual amounts shown at checkout:
Total over 36 months = phone installments minus promotional credits + service cost + activation or upgrade fees + taxes + required connected-device service + optional protection and accessories.

For a selected storage tier, the remaining monthly phone cost is the device installment minus the promotional credit. If the credit is based on a less expensive configuration, you may still owe a monthly balance.
If you already have the qualifying plan
Use your current plan cost as the service baseline. Add the phone installment net of credits, one-time fees, taxes, and any new required service. A promotion that works on a plan you already intended to keep is more likely to produce genuine savings.
If you would switch plans only for the phone
Calculate the incremental plan cost over 36 months, then subtract the additional phone credit. For example, a plan that costs $15 more per month adds $540 over 36 months; against a $1,000 credit, that leaves $460 in net phone savings before taxes and fees. Use your own plan-price difference, not this illustrative amount, for a decision.
If you are upgrading before your current phone is paid off
Check the remaining device balance and the promotional credits on your existing line before placing the order. You may need to pay off the old device, lose future credits, or qualify for a separate early-upgrade route. A new iPhone promotion should not be assumed to pay another carrier’s balance.

Verizon’s public iPhone 17e listing is a useful example of why the installment is not the whole cost: its listed $16.66 monthly device payment is for 36 months at 0% APR, while plan and other charges are separate. The current free 5G phones page does not establish the eligibility terms of every account-specific discount.

Verizon’s general trade-in requirements say the phone must power on, have functional front and back screens without cracks, have no battery damage, and have Activation Lock or Find My iPhone disabled. The submitted device must match the model and condition declared.
- Back up the old phone and make sure you can access your account and recovery information on the replacement.
- Sign out of your Apple Account and iCloud, turn off Find My iPhone, and disable Activation Lock.
- Erase all content and settings only after confirming the backup and account sign-out.
- Photograph the phone’s condition and record its serial number or IMEI before shipment.
- Use Verizon’s trade-in instructions, retain the receipt and tracking number, and keep them until credits appear.
Because credits can take one to two billing periods to show, keep enough cash available for the initial bill and compare the first statements with the order terms. If the device was accepted but the expected credit is missing, contact Verizon with the order confirmation and tracking details.
Verizon versus buying directly from Apple
For the cited configuration, Apple lists the iPhone 17 Pro 256GB from $1,099, or $45.79 per month for 24 months. Its displayed trade-in range on that page was $35–$695 depending on the device; values vary by model and condition. Apple’s page is specific to the Verizon configuration, so recheck the current price and trade-in estimate before buying.
| Factor | Verizon promotion | Apple direct purchase |
|---|---|---|
| How savings arrive | Often monthly bill credits over a promotional term, commonly 36 months. | Eligible trade-in value is shown in Apple’s purchase flow; the cited Pro page showed an estimated $35–$695 range by trade-in device. |
| Financing example | Depends on the device-payment agreement and promotion in the account checkout. | The cited iPhone 17 Pro 256GB page showed $45.79 monthly for 24 months. |
| Service qualification | Some promotions require a qualifying Verizon plan and line status. | Buying directly does not require accepting a Verizon promotional plan; the cited Verizon model can be activated with Verizon. |
| Flexibility | Credits depend on continued eligibility; Verizon-financed iPhone remains locked until paid in full, per Apple. | Apple says direct purchases can be activated with Verizon and later switched to another carrier. |
Verizon may win on effective handset cost if you already want its service, have a qualifying trade-in, and expect to stay eligible for 36 months. Apple may be better if you value a shorter financing horizon, want more carrier flexibility, or would otherwise pay more for Verizon service than for your preferred alternative.
Quick Recap
When Verizon is not the best deal
- You may switch carriers before the 36-month credit term ends.
- You would need to abandon a cheaper grandfathered plan or lose existing account discounts.
- The required plan costs more over time than the additional phone credit saves.
- Your trade-in is valuable enough that a private sale or another trade-in route may return more.
- You want an unlocked phone or do not want to depend on monthly bill credits.
- You do not need cellular service for a watch bundled with the phone.
