The estimates most often cited are historical: The Guardian reported £100 million in 2005, while the Evening Standard described his wealth as “up to $200 million” in 2013. Neither is a current valuation, and EIM’s assets under management are not Busson’s personal wealth.
What is Arpad Busson’s net worth?
His current net worth is not established by a transparent, independently verified public accounting. The two usable personal-wealth estimates are dated press reports, not audited statements or valuations of his present assets and liabilities.
| Report | Reported personal-wealth estimate | What the wording establishes |
|---|---|---|
| The Guardian, 2005 | £100 million | A reported estimate of Busson’s personal fortune at that time. |
| The Standard, 2013 | Up to $200 million | A reported estimate, qualified by “up to”; it is not a present-day figure. |
The figures should not be treated as a direct increase from £100 million to $200 million. They use different currencies, were published eight years apart, and the reports do not provide a common valuation method or exchange-rate comparison.
Why EIM’s assets under management are not his net worth
Some coverage gives large figures for EIM, the hedge-fund business Busson founded, but those are assets managed by a firm on behalf of clients—not an estimate of the founder’s personal wealth. The Guardian reported that EIM managed around £5.5 billion in 2005. IPE reported more than $7 billion in EIM assets under management in 2006. Neither figure measures what Busson personally owned after debts or other obligations.

Confusing business assets under management with personal wealth can make a net-worth estimate appear far more precise than the evidence supports. The two measures answer different questions.
What the 2013 Gottex share report does—and does not—show
In its 2013 report on the EIM/Gottex transaction, The Standard said Busson was to receive 14 million Gottex shares, then reported as worth CHF 37 million, through family trusts. That is a historical transaction detail, not proof that he still holds those shares, that their value remained the same, or that the reported amount represented his entire net worth.

What Busson has said about his wealth
Asked about his worth in a 2008 interview with The Guardian, Busson answered “enough,” without giving a number. The interview therefore offers no additional basis for calculating his personal net worth.
In the same interview, discussing the relationship between business and philanthropy, he said: “I couldn’t be a philanthropist if I wasn’t a businessman.” That statement describes his view of the connection between the two; it does not establish a wealth figure.
