G2A says it verifies business sellers and uses fraud controls; its terms place key-validity obligations on sellers. Past cases show that illegitimate keys have reached the marketplace, but available evidence does not establish how often that happens today. Before buying, check the seller, edition, platform, region, and dispute terms—and use a publisher or verified authorized retailer when provenance certainty matters most.
What does it mean for a G2A key to be “legit”?
The question has two parts: whether G2A is a functioning marketplace, and whether a particular seller’s key was legitimately sourced and will activate as advertised. G2A’s terms describe G2A.COM as a platform where sellers present offers and buyers purchase them. Unless an offer specifically identifies G2A as the seller, the transaction is generally between the buyer and the third-party seller. The terms distinguish the platform’s services from the underlying sale, including the item’s price, quality, legality, warranty, and liability. G2A’s terms and conditions explain that structure.

So, “G2A is real” is not the same as “every key on G2A is authorized” or “every purchase will work.” A code can also be genuine but still be wrong for a buyer because it applies to a different edition, platform, or region.
What G2A says about its sellers and key supply
G2A says its sellers are registered businesses that undergo verification, and that it uses seller screening and fraud controls. The company also says most marketplace keys come from business-verified wholesalers that buy in bulk from developers and publishers. These are G2A’s descriptions of its processes and supply chain, not independent proof of an individual key’s provenance or a guarantee that a listing will activate. G2A’s reliability information describes the company’s account of its controls and sourcing.

G2A’s terms prohibit sellers from listing items that are invalid, expired, already used, revoked, duplicated, unlawfully obtained, technically defective, or unable to be activated as described. That is a seller obligation, not assurance that buyers will never encounter a problem. The terms also describe review and dispute mechanisms; they do not establish a universal automatic refund for every transaction.
What the documented disputes do—and do not—show
In 2019, G2A responded to developer allegations that some keys had been obtained with stolen payment cards. The company proposed an audit process and offered, under stated proof and audit conditions, to pay developers ten times their proven chargeback losses. The statement was a historical company proposal, not an independent audit of the marketplace or a buyer guarantee. G2A’s 2019 statement sets out its offer.

In 2020, G2A reported that its investigation found 198 Wube keys had been sold through its marketplace and announced a commitment to compensate developers for chargeback fees on proven illegitimate keys. That is evidence of a specific case in which illegitimate keys reached the marketplace. It is not a measure of how common problematic keys are across G2A, either then or now. G2A’s 2020 announcement describes that case.
The material available does not establish a current, independently audited share of G2A listings that are invalid, stolen, revoked, or unauthorized. Individual cases, company explanations, or customer anecdotes cannot establish a marketplace-wide rate. A marketplace may include legitimate resale while still leaving buyers exposed to seller-specific and provenance risks.

How to check a listing before you buy
Compare the offer with the game and account you actually need. G2A’s support hub lists help topics for nonworking or stopped-working items, wrong platform, region or version, seller contact, refunds, and Buyer Protection. G2A’s support hub is the place to check current help options.
- Title and edition: Confirm the exact game, edition, and included content; similar product names may not mean the same package.
- Platform: Check that the key is for the system or store you use. A valid code for another platform will not meet that need.
- Region: Read activation restrictions and make sure the code can be redeemed where your account is based.
- Seller: Review the seller identity and available history. Seller verification does not independently establish the origin of a specific key.
- Total cost and remedies: Compare the checkout total, current refund and dispute terms, and the process available if a key is invalid or later revoked.
- Provenance: If authorized sourcing is important, compare the offer with the publisher’s own store or a retailer whose current authorization you can verify.
A low price alone does not establish where a key came from. Likewise, a platform-wide statement about seller checks cannot substitute for checking the exact listing and the terms that apply to your order.

What to do if a key does not work
- Keep the order details. Save the order confirmation and listing information so you can refer to the exact item, seller, edition, and region.
- Record the activation error. Note the message shown by the game platform and, where possible, keep a screenshot.
- Check for a mismatch. Compare the listing against the platform, account region, version, and edition you tried to activate.
- Use the current order-specific support route. Consult G2A’s support hub for nonworking items, seller contact, refunds, and Buyer Protection; follow the process shown for your transaction.
- Keep communications and evidence. Retain seller and support messages, along with any requested proof, while the dispute is handled.
The available terms and support information do not establish one refund outcome for every buyer, item, seller, and jurisdiction. Check the current terms and the order-specific process rather than assuming a particular resolution.
When another seller may be the better choice
If you want the clearest path to authorized provenance, start with the game publisher’s own store or verify that a retailer is currently authorized to sell that game. Compare like with like: the precise edition and platform, region limits, seller identity, total checkout price, authorization, refund and dispute terms, and what happens if a code is revoked. This helps separate a genuine price difference from a difference in product, restrictions, or recourse.
