In 2021, current and former Apple employees organized under the name #AppleToo to share accounts of workplace treatment and press the company to address concerns. Organizers described allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, bullying and abuse, and said some workers felt internal reporting channels had failed them. Those accounts are allegations, not a finding that Apple maintained a “toxic” workplace.

What #AppleToo was—and what workers reported

#AppleToo was an employee-organizing effort focused on workplace culture at Apple. By early September 2021, organizers said they had received around 500 employee testimonies, according to Computer Weekly’s September 2021 report. That was the organizers’ reported submission count, not an independently verified survey or a measure of how common the experiences were across Apple’s workforce.

The accounts described by organizers included claims of racism, sexism, discrimination, retaliation, bullying, harassment, sexual assault and complaints that human resources had ignored or failed to resolve. These are worker and organizer claims; the contemporaneous reporting does not independently establish each account or how Apple handled each complaint.

What the organizers’ figures mean

In a statement dated 30 August 2021, #AppleToo said 75% of the stories it had received involved some form of discrimination; nearly half involved sexism, retaliation and HR reports it said were dismissed; one quarter involved racism or ableism; and more than a third involved harassment or assault, most of it sexual. The Guardian quoted that breakdown in its 3 September 2021 report.

The percentages describe the content of submissions organizers received. They do not show what proportion of Apple employees experienced those conditions, and the available reporting does not establish that the submissions formed a representative sample.

How Apple responded

In the Guardian report, Apple said: “We are and have always been deeply committed to creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive workplace. We take all concerns seriously and we thoroughly investigate whenever a concern is raised and, out of respect for the privacy of any individuals involved, we do not discuss specific employee matters.” The statement sets out Apple’s position; it does not resolve the individual allegations or provide details about particular cases.

What later NLRB records do—and do not—show

National Labor Relations Board docket entries concern specific labor matters and should be read separately from #AppleToo’s broader workplace-culture accounts. Allegation labels are not findings of fact, and procedural actions in a docket do not, by themselves, establish the truth of the organizers’ claims.

Case 32-CA-306609

The NLRB docket for case 32-CA-306609 lists allegations involving coercive statements, interrogation, and retaliation or discharge. It shows an open status and a Board decision dated 13 May 2026. The docket summary does not provide the decision’s reasoning, so it cannot support a more specific account of what the Board decided.

Columbus case 09-CA-309104

The NLRB docket for case 09-CA-309104 lists the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and Apple as participants. It records a bilateral settlement agreement in February 2026, followed by withdrawal approvals in March 2026. That is a docketed settlement-and-withdrawal sequence, not a finding about the wider allegations associated with #AppleToo.

How to read the record

  • Employee accounts: Reports shared by workers and organizers describe alleged experiences; they are not automatically verified findings.
  • Apple’s statement: The company said it investigated concerns and declined to discuss specific employee matters.
  • NLRB entries: Agency allegations, decisions, settlements and withdrawals relate to particular cases. Their significance depends on the specific docket record; they should not be treated as proof of every broader workplace claim.
