Canadian Tire’s general policy allows a refund or exchange within 90 days for unopened items in their original packaging when you have a receipt. The public policy does not set a blanket return rule specifically for car batteries, so an opened or installed battery’s eligibility is not clear from the general terms. Check your receipt and the terms for your exact battery, or contact the store where you bought it before making a trip.
Canadian Tire’s general return rule
Canadian Tire says unopened items in original packaging, returned with a receipt within 90 days of purchase, can receive a refund to the original payment method or an exchange. See the Canadian Tire Returns page for the current policy.
The same policy says opened, damaged, or non-resalable items may not qualify for a refund or exchange. It does not specifically explain whether installation or use disqualifies every car battery. The public exceptions list does not name car batteries, but that does not guarantee every battery is returnable on identical terms: a battery product listing cautions that general return information may not apply to that product.
Ordinary return or exchange versus a warranty claim
| Situation | What the published terms establish | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You no longer want the battery or bought the wrong one | The general 90-day rule applies to unopened goods in original packaging returned with a receipt. The public policy does not settle whether an opened or installed car battery qualifies. | Check the receipt and exact product terms; ask the purchasing store about eligibility before bringing it in. |
| The battery appears defective | Canadian Tire says defective products are subject to the manufacturer’s warranty. A warranty claim is not automatically a refund. | Find the warranty for the exact battery model and follow its claim process. |
For example, the listing for the Certified Group Size 34/78 automotive battery states a one-year exchange warranty for that model. That duration should not be assumed for other batteries.
#1 Best Overall
- High density negative paste, improves performance and increases battery life
- Enhanced life alloy or Silver Calcium stamped alloy increases cycle life and improves performance
- Calcium lead positive grid, maximizes conductivity and allows for low resistance
- Robust envelope separator with puncture resistant back, allows for increased acid circulation and prevents shorts. Improved acid circulation, helps the battery to remain cool, and extend battery life
- Vent cap design that resists acid leakage
What to bring and check
- Proof of purchase: Bring the receipt if you have it. Canadian Tire says a receipt lookup may verify credit or debit purchases within 90 days, but returns, exchanges, or warranty claims without a receipt may not be accepted.
- Exact battery details: Check the model’s listing, warranty information, and any terms shown on your receipt. Warranty periods can differ by product.
- Condition and timing: Note when you bought the battery and whether it is unopened, opened, or installed. The general policy gives a 90-day window for qualifying unopened goods, but does not specify the result for every used battery.
If you have a MotoMaster battery
MotoMaster’s battery warranty brochure requires original proof of purchase. It says a replacement depends on testing that confirms a qualifying defect, and that the battery itself identifies the applicable warranty period. These terms apply to MotoMaster batteries covered by that brochure, not automatically to other brands. Consult the MotoMaster Canada Battery Limited Warranty brochure for its claim details.

- ✅Batter dimensions: 10.75" L x 6.81" W x 8.98" H, Terminal: Tapered terminal (Left negative (-), Right positive (+)). ✅Please ensure to verify the dimensions and terminal position before making a purchase to guarantee compatibility with your vehicle to avoid any fitment issues.
- With a 70AH capacity and 710 cold cranking amps (CCA). Provides reliable performance and long service life, Up to 2 times the cycle life of conventional batteries. If your car's original battery is an AGM type, you must continue using an AGM battery, as your car will not accept a "downgrade" to a flooded battery. Nominal Voltage:12V. Charging Voltage:14.4~15.0V. Acceptable Charging Current:0~21A. Operating Temperature Range: -22°F~158°F.
- Heat / Cold Resistance: The materials used in the construction of AGM batteries (such as glass fiber mats and specialized separators) have better heat resistance. This allows AGM batteries to maintain their performance and capacity even in the hottest climates, They are also more resistant to extreme temperatures, making them ideal for hot or cold regions.
- Low Self-Discharge: AGM batteries have lower self-discharge rates compared to flooded batteries. Self-discharge refers to the loss of capacity that batteries experience over time when not in use. In hot climates, when the battery may need to be stored for extended periods or not frequently used, AGM batteries can better maintain charge, providing higher voltage output and easier engine start-up in any climate.
- Enhanced Safety: AGM batteries have a lower risk of acid leaks and spills compared to flooded batteries. This is because the acid is absorbed and held within the glass fiber mats, reducing the risk of corrosion or damage to surrounding components, this makes AGM batteries more durable and long-lasting, is also two to three times longer than flooded batteries. AGM batteries also have a lower risk of explosion and are safer to handle, making them ideal for high-performance vehicles.
