No: Newcastle confirmed Anthony Gordon signed a new long-term contract in October 2024, but neither the club nor the BBC disclosed its length. The club also did not publish his Newcastle salary. Gordon left Newcastle for Barcelona in May 2026, so a headline saying he has just signed a six-year Newcastle deal is now materially out of date.
What Newcastle confirmed about Gordon’s 2024 contract
Newcastle United announced on 22 October 2024 that Gordon had signed a “new long-term contract.” The announcement did not give an end date or salary. The BBC reported that day that Newcastle had not revealed the deal’s length and likewise described it as long-term. Newcastle’s announcement and the BBC report therefore do not establish a six-year term or a specific pay rise.
Gordon said at the time: “I’m very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me – and I’m here to win a trophy.” That statement explains his public enthusiasm for staying, but it does not provide contract terms.
What is known about his Newcastle salary?
No official Newcastle source reviewed disclosed Gordon’s salary. SalaryLeaks estimates his 2024–25 Newcastle wages at £150,000 a week, or £7.8 million a year; those figures are third-party estimates, not verified contract terms. SalaryLeaks’ estimate does not substantiate the claim that his Newcastle pay was £3 million or that a Newcastle contract more than doubled it.

Why reports of a doubled wage refer to Barcelona
Around £300,000 a week was reported by The Guardian on 27 May 2026 as the expected wage in connection with Gordon’s move to Barcelona, described as roughly double his wages. That is media reporting about the proposed Barcelona contract, not an official disclosure of his Newcastle salary or a Newcastle pay deal. The Guardian’s report should not be read as confirmation of the “double his £3m” Newcastle claim.

Newcastle announced on 29 May 2026 that Gordon had signed for Barcelona for an undisclosed fee. The club recorded 152 appearances and 39 goals for Newcastle in all competitions. Newcastle’s departure announcement documents the transfer. Barcelona’s official player profile says Gordon joined in summer 2026 and lists his contract through 2031.

That Barcelona contract horizon is separate from the undisclosed term of Gordon’s October 2024 Newcastle extension. It cannot establish that the Newcastle deal lasted six years.
