Sheffield Wednesday’s American takeover is complete. Arise Capital Partners LLC has taken ownership of the club’s assets, ending its administration; the EFL also decided not to impose a 15-point deduction specifically for the club’s exit from administration.
Has the American takeover happened?
Yes. On 2 May 2026, the English Football League (EFL) said the administrators had agreed to transfer Sheffield Wednesday’s club assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC and that the club was no longer in administration. Who are Sheffield Wednesday’s new owners?
The buyer is Arise Capital Partners LLC, a US consortium led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin, according to the EFL and the administrators. EFL statement; Administrators’ statement.
Arise had been selected as preferred bidder in March after an earlier preferred bidder withdrew. That was an interim stage; the May completion statements confirm the ownership change has since taken place.

What does the takeover mean for the club?
The immediate, confirmed changes are that ownership of the club’s assets has transferred and Sheffield Wednesday has exited administration. The EFL’s announcement marks the end of the administration process, not a promise of sporting success, a particular level of new investment, promotion, or resolution of every financial issue. The cited completion statements do not establish those outcomes.
Will Sheffield Wednesday get a points deduction?
The EFL Board decided not to impose a 15-point deduction on Sheffield Wednesday following its exit from administration. The decision is specific to that proposed sanction; it should not be read as removing any separate historic sporting sanctions or giving the club a clean slate on every matter.

In general, acquisitions of control in EFL clubs are subject to EFL and Independent Football Regulator (IFR) requirements. The EFL says its Owners, Directors and Senior Executives regime began on 5 May 2026 and requires IFR approval before a person becomes an owner or takes a specified senior role.
