Amazon Fresh raised its Prime free-delivery minimum to more than $150 on February 28, 2023. That was a historical change, not a new 2026 announcement: Amazon’s U.S. guide, accessed October 7, 2026, lists free two-hour Amazon Fresh delivery for Prime members on orders over $100. Same-Day grocery delivery is a separate service with different terms.
What changed in February 2023?
Amazon announced the change in January 2023, with the new fee schedule taking effect February 28. Before the change, free Amazon Fresh delivery was available on orders over $35 in most areas and over $50 in New York. Under the new schedule, Prime members needed an order over $150 for free delivery, according to The Associated Press.

The fee tiers and thresholds above describe the 2023 policy, not current checkout pricing. The Associated Press reported the announcement, effective date and fee schedule.
Why did Amazon Fresh raise the free-delivery minimum?
Amazon said the fee was intended to help cover grocery-delivery costs while keeping prices low and maintaining a consistent, fast, high-quality delivery experience. Amazon spokesperson Lara Hendrickson gave that explanation in a prepared statement to The Associated Press. It is Amazon’s stated rationale, not independent evidence that grocery prices or service quality changed as a result.

What is the Amazon Fresh free-delivery minimum now?
Amazon’s U.S. grocery guide, accessed October 7, 2026, lists free Amazon Fresh delivery in two-hour windows for Prime members on orders over $100. It lists a $6.95 fee for orders between $50 and $100 and $9.95 for orders under $50. Non-Prime delivery fees are listed as $4.95–$13.95 depending on order size. Amazon said in 2026 that Amazon Fresh delivery and free pickup were being offered to all customers in U.S. areas where the service is available to Prime members. Prime members continue to receive exclusive discounts, including free Amazon Fresh delivery on orders over $100, according to the company. Amazon’s announcement describes the expansion to non-Prime customers.

How much does Amazon grocery delivery cost across services?
Amazon Fresh two-hour delivery and perishable-grocery Same-Day delivery are separate services. The Same-Day threshold does not apply to Amazon Fresh.

Can a grocery subscription reduce delivery fees?
Amazon’s grocery delivery subscription is a separate paid option. In an article updated May 12, 2026, Amazon listed the subscription at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year for Prime members, and $4.99 per month for eligible Prime Access members. Amazon says subscribers receive unlimited deliveries on orders over $25 in most areas across Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, and participating local grocery and specialty retailers.
