Its Milwaukee and Geneva/West Chicago stores remain open under new employee ownership, but the September 2025 online-order deadline has passed. The company’s current store page lists the locations and directs people who cannot visit in person to PulseTV for mail-order gadgets and gizmos.
Can you still order from American Science & Surplus online?
No. The company’s current official Our Stores page says its website and mail-order division are closed. The former online store, Sciplus.com, is not an active ordering channel.
The final online and phone-order date was September 7, 2025, according to a customer email reproduced in a report published August 26, 2025. That email also set September 7 as the deadline to redeem gift certificates online. These were historical deadlines, not current offers or upcoming dates.
What happened, and when?
- August 26, 2025: PopCult published the company’s customer notice, which said September 7 would be the last day to order online or by phone and to redeem gift certificates online. The notice also said the mail-order warehouse would close and described plans to keep the Geneva and Milwaukee stores operating through sales to their management teams. At that point, the Park Ridge store was expected to close toward the end of September. Read the contemporaneous report.
- September 30, 2025: Milwaukee owner Kim Stenglein later said the former company went out of business on this date. She said she bought the Milwaukee store in October 2025, while a former manager bought the Geneva location. Her April 13, 2026 interview describes the stores as independent of each other while still working together.
- Current status: American Science & Surplus’s official page presents Milwaukee and Geneva/West Chicago as open physical stores under new employee ownership. The former company’s online and mail-order operation has ended; the two surviving locations are not one online business.
Which American Science & Surplus stores are still listed as open?
The official page currently lists these locations and hours. Check the page before traveling because hours and contact details can change.

What happened to the American Science & Surplus catalog?
There is no longer a catalog or website for ordering from the former company, Stenglein said in her April 2026 interview. The closure notice had already announced the end of mail order and the warehouse in 2025. The available sources do not establish the full contents of the final catalog or what happened to every item formerly sold online.

The official page points customers who cannot visit a store to PulseTV for mail-order gadgets and gizmos. That is a suggestion for another retailer, not evidence that PulseTV acquired American Science & Surplus, inherited its catalog or inventory, or has a formal referral relationship with it.
What can shoppers expect at the Milwaukee store?
In her April 2026 interview, Stenglein described the Milwaukee store as rebuilding vendor relationships and merchandise after the transition. She identified science kits, model kits and novelty toys as family-oriented categories, and said the store also serves weekday customers looking for a particular switch, part or project item. She called electronics a major focus and noted the usefulness of being able to inspect or test items in person.

The 2025 notice said online gift-certificate redemption ended September 7, 2025. The available sources do not confirm how every outstanding certificate was handled after that date, or provide a current process for resolving a past order. The old online store should not be treated as a place to make a new purchase or redeem a certificate.
