American Airlines announced daily, year-round nonstop flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), with service scheduled to begin March 29, 2026, on a Boeing 787-8. The route announcement is separate from protests in Milan reported in connection with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents’ presence in Italy during the 2026 Winter Olympics.

What American Airlines announced

American Airlines’ route announcement lists nonstop service between Miami (MIA) and Milan Malpensa (MXP). The airline said flights would operate daily year-round starting March 29, 2026, using a Boeing 787-8. These are the announced schedule and aircraft details, not a guarantee of the current operating schedule; travelers should check American’s latest listings for their dates.

American described the new flight as complementing its Miami–Rome service, which began in summer 2025. In the announcement, Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning Brian Znotins said: “Customers continue to tell us that Europe is where they want to go each summer and these new routes make it even easier to cross the Atlantic in 2026.”

Why the story mentions protests against the U.S.

A March 2026 AOL article by Cristina Miceli connects the route with demonstrations in Milan over ICE agents’ presence in Italy during the Winter Olympic Games. AOL’s description says hundreds gathered in Milan on Friday, February 6, 2026. That protest account is AOL’s reporting; it is not part of American Airlines’ route announcement.

The distinction matters: American announced a new commercial flight route, while the separate protest story concerns opposition to the presence of U.S. federal immigration agents in Italy. The available reporting does not establish that protests prompted the airline’s decision to add the route.

What the available information does—and does not—say about travel

The route announcement establishes what American said it planned for the Miami–Milan service. The AOL article describes demonstrations in February 2026, but it does not establish whether protests are happening now or what current travel advisories say. Neither source is a substitute for checking current airline schedules or official travel guidance before a trip.
