Amazon Haul is a low-price shopping experience inside Amazon’s store, but the available evidence does not establish that its catalog is “full of junk.” Amazon promotes low prices and says it screens products and backs eligible purchases with its A-to-z Guarantee; those are company claims, not independent proof of quality. The clearest criticism is one writer’s account of a cheap charger that broke—not a representative test of Haul goods.
What Amazon Haul is—and how it changed
Haul launched in the United States in November 2024 as a separate shopping experience within Amazon, with its own search, cart and checkout, according to Amazon’s launch announcement. The Associated Press described it as a low-cost storefront aimed at competing with discount marketplaces such as Shein and Temu. It is not the same thing as a separate company or an independent marketplace app.
At launch, Amazon said every Haul item was priced at $20 or less, most at $10 or less, and delivery typically took one to two weeks. Those were launch-era descriptions, not guaranteed current prices or delivery terms. Haul has since expanded beyond its original U.S. beta: in a November 9, 2025 update, Amazon said it served 25 locations and had more than one million listings under $10. The company also said its selection had grown nearly 400% in its first year. These are Amazon-reported figures, not independently audited current counts. See Amazon’s one-year update.
Does “full of junk” describe the evidence?
“Junk” is a judgment about usefulness, durability or quality, not a measured finding about Haul’s full catalog. In a November 15, 2024 essay, The Atlantic’s writer recounted buying a cheap charger that broke soon after it arrived and considered the appeal of inexpensive goods that may have little lasting value. That is a personal anecdote and argument; it does not establish how often Haul products fail or how Haul compares with other retailers in product quality. The essay is available at The Atlantic.

Amazon says it screens Haul offerings and that purchases are backed by its A-to-z Guarantee. At launch, Amazon vice president Dharmesh Mehta said the guarantee was intended to give customers confidence that products are “safe, authentic, and in the condition expected.” This describes Amazon’s assurance and remedy framework; it is not independent verification that every listing meets those expectations. A guarantee can help address a problem after a purchase, but it cannot tell you in advance whether a particular low-cost item will last.
What to check before placing a Haul order
Low item prices are only one part of the value calculation. Before buying, assess the individual listing and the order as a whole:

- Total cost: Check the cart total, including delivery charges, rather than judging the offer by its item price alone.
- Delivery estimate: Read the current estimate on the listing or at checkout. Haul’s launch delivery description was slower than standard fast Amazon delivery, and timing can vary.
- Returns: Confirm the item’s eligibility, deadline and return process in the live listing and policy. Amazon’s launch and anniversary pages described free returns within 15 days for purchases over $3, but these terms may change.
- Seller and product details: Look for clear specifications, materials, dimensions and seller information. For a product where safety or compatibility matters, missing details are a reason to choose a better-documented option.
- Evidence for the specific item: Read reviews critically and compare them with the listing’s claims. A low price or a large number of reviews is not, by itself, proof of durability or suitability.
Amazon’s launch page also described a $25 threshold for free delivery and A-to-z Guarantee coverage. Because these are terms reported at launch, check the current Haul checkout and policy rather than assuming they still apply. Amazon reiterated shipping and return terms in its November 9, 2025 anniversary update; the $1 and $0.11 offers mentioned there were a dated November 10–11, 2025 promotion, not ongoing prices.
Haul is not Amazon Outlet
Amazon Outlet is a distinct discount channel that Amazon describes as a place to buy overstock at reduced prices. In its 2024 Sustainability Report, Amazon said it sold 68 million items from retail sellers through Outlet that year. That figure concerns Outlet—not Haul—and does not measure Haul’s selection, quality or sales. See Amazon’s 2024 Sustainability Report.

How to judge the bargain
Haul’s appeal is straightforward: a large selection of inexpensive products in an Amazon shopping experience. Whether an item is a good buy depends on its total cost, delivery, return terms and the evidence available about that particular product. Current, item-by-item comparisons of Haul with Temu, Shein or standard Amazon shopping are not established by the launch coverage or company updates. Treat the low price as a reason to inspect the listing—not as proof that the item is either a bargain or junk.
