Thirteen Seattle-area high school students received Amazon Future Engineer college scholarships at a surprise event on April 17, 2024. The awards offered up to $40,000 toward eligible college study and a paid Amazon internship offer after freshman year.
Which Seattle-area students received scholarships?
The 13 recipients represented five school districts. GeekWire reported the winners and their schools as follows:

What did the 2024 scholarship include?
For the 2024 announcement, each scholarship provided up to $40,000 for study toward a computer science, engineering, or related degree at a college or university of the student’s choice. Recipients also received a paid Amazon internship offer after their freshman year, according to GeekWire’s report.

“Up to $40,000” is a maximum award, not a statement that every recipient received the same amount or that the sum was paid all at once. The announcement described an internship offer; it did not specify in the cited report the internship’s role, location, duration, or other conditions.
Selection factors reported for the 2024 cohort
GeekWire said selection considered academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, participation in school and community activities, work experience, future goals, and financial need. These are factors reported for that announcement, not confirmed rules for a later application cycle.

How were the awards presented?
The students came to Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery facility in Seattle believing they were there for a final scholarship interview. Instead, they were surprised with the awards at the April 17, 2024 event. GeekWire published its account on April 19.
At the event, Amazon global director of education philanthropy Victor Reinoso said: “By investing in computer science education for students from historically underrepresented and underserved communities, we’re not only empowering them to pursue rewarding careers but also equipping them with skills to drive innovation that will shape a more equitable and sustainable future for generations to come,” according to GeekWire.

Amazon’s 2026 announcement says 200 U.S. high school students received scholarships in that cohort and that the program had awarded 1,950 scholarships and more than $70 million in U.S. tuition since 2019. Those company-reported figures are later program totals and should not be confused with the 400 nationwide recipients in 2024. The 2024 details do not establish the eligibility requirements, deadlines, award terms, or internship conditions for a future application cycle. Students considering applying should check the official scholarship page for the live cycle rather than rely on a past announcement: Amazon Future Engineer scholarships.
