Amazon.com, Inc. reported $187.8 billion in net sales for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2024, up 10% year over year, the company said on February 6, 2025. Amazon’s release does not report the 9.5% figure in the original headline; it reports 10%, or 11% excluding the effect of foreign exchange.
What Amazon reported for Q4 2024
The $187.8 billion figure is Amazon’s consolidated net sales for the three months ended December 31, 2024. The comparable amount a year earlier was $170.0 billion. Amazon described the year-over-year increase as 10%. Excluding a $0.9 billion unfavorable foreign-exchange impact, the company said growth would have been 11%. Amazon’s February 6, 2025 earnings release provides the reported figures.
The title’s 9.5% wording is not an official growth rate in Amazon’s release. Amazon’s exact consolidated statements list $187.792 billion in Q4 2024 net sales and $169.961 billion in Q4 2023. The company’s published comparison is 10%; its release does not explain the origin of the 9.5% headline figure.
How sales were divided among Amazon’s businesses
Amazon reported sales in three segments: North America, International and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The segment growth rates are each comparisons for that segment, not separate pieces that should be added together to recreate consolidated growth.

These rounded segment figures and growth rates are from Amazon’s Q4 2024 release. Foreign exchange affects comparisons, so the reported and currency-adjusted growth rates are not interchangeable.
Net sales are not profit
Net sales measure the value of sales reported for the period; they do not show how much Amazon kept as earnings. For Q4 2024, Amazon reported $21.2 billion in operating income, compared with $13.2 billion in Q4 2023. Net income was $20.0 billion, versus $10.6 billion a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share were $1.86, compared with $1.00. These are distinct measures from sales, as shown in the company’s earnings announcement.

How the quarter compares with full-year 2024
Q4 is one three-month period, not Amazon’s result for the entire year. For full-year 2024, the company reported $638.0 billion in net sales, up 11% from $574.8 billion in 2023. AWS generated $107.6 billion in sales for the full year, up 19%. Those annual figures cover a different period from Q4’s $187.8 billion and should not be compared as though they were the same reporting window. Amazon’s annual and fourth-quarter results report both periods.
Later results are a separate comparison
In a later report, Amazon said Q2 2026 net sales were $200.6 billion, up 20% year over year. That is a separate quarter and a later result, not a correction to the Q4 2024 figures. Amazon’s Q2 2026 announcement reports that comparison.

What Amazon said about the holiday season
In the Q4 2024 announcement, Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy said: “The holiday shopping season was the most successful yet for Amazon and we appreciate the support of our customers, selling partners, and employees who helped make it so,” the company’s release states. This is Jassy’s characterization of the season, rather than a separate independently measured result.
