Amazon Conversion Rate: How to Calculate, Compare, and Improve It

Amazon conversion rate depends on the report: Seller Central unit session percentage uses sessions, while Ads purchase rate uses ad-attributed clicks. Learn how to interpret each.

Amazon does not have one conversion-rate number that answers every seller question. For listing performance, Seller Central’s unit session percentage compares units ordered with sessions. Amazon Ads’ purchase rate compares ad-attributed purchases with ad clicks. They use different denominators and attribution rules, so identify the report and metric before comparing rates or deciding what to change.

Which Amazon conversion rate are you looking at?

“Amazon conversion rate” is shorthand, not a single standardized metric. Seller Central Business Reports and Amazon Ads measure different populations and answer different questions.

Metric What it answers Denominator How to use it
Seller Central unit session percentage How many ordered units relative to listing sessions during the selected period? Sessions Analyze listing performance alongside sales and traffic.
Amazon Ads purchase rate How many ad-attributed purchases relative to ad clicks? Ad-attributed clicks Analyze campaign performance using the report’s attribution window.

Amazon’s Business Reports metric definitions describe sessions and session-based measures. Amazon Ads defines purchase rate in its search term report column documentation. A rate from one report should not be treated as interchangeable with the other.

How do you calculate Seller Central unit session percentage?

For the unit-based listing measure, use:

Unit session percentage = units ordered ÷ sessions × 100

Use units ordered and sessions for the same selected reporting period and listing scope. The denominator is sessions, not page views. Amazon explains that multiple page views during a customer visit within a 24-hour window count as one session, so page views can exceed sessions.

This is a units-per-session measure. It is not necessarily the share of unique customers who placed an order: an order may contain more than one unit.

How is Amazon Ads purchase rate different?

Amazon Ads calls its metric purchase rate; it was formerly labeled “7 day conversion rate.” It divides ad-attributed purchases by ad-attributed clicks, counting purchases that occur within seven days after an ad click. See Amazon Ads’ column definitions for the report terminology.

This click-based, attributed campaign measure is not units ordered per listing session. When you share or compare an Ads rate, identify it as purchase rate, name the click denominator, and include its seven-day post-click window. For a Seller Central listing analysis, use the session-based metric instead.

Where can you find a conversion rate in Seller Central?

For listing analysis, use the Business Reports view that includes session-based metrics and identify unit session percentage. Amazon’s metric definitions are in its Business Reports help; access to some Seller Central help content may require signing in.

Amazon Ads reporting is separate. Its purchase rate appears in applicable advertising reports, including the search term report column definitions. Do not assume a percentage shown elsewhere in a brand or advertising dashboard has the same denominator as unit session percentage. If two displayed rates differ, first check their report names, metric definitions, date ranges, listing scope, and attribution basis rather than assuming one is incorrect.

What is a good Amazon conversion rate?

The official sources cited here do not establish a universal Amazon seller conversion-rate target. Amazon’s general ecommerce guide, dated August 6, 2024, says rates vary by industry and by factors such as product type, price, customer behavior, seasonality, trust, and competition. Its broad ecommerce figures are not measured Amazon marketplace seller benchmarks, so they should not be used as a target for a particular listing.

For advertising comparisons, Amazon Ads’ Benchmark reporting documentation, updated June 10, 2026, describes peer comparisons for eligible brand owners and representatives. Benchmark cards show the peer-group median, or 50th percentile; the 25th and 75th percentile values are available through the API and downloadable reports. The page lists availability in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, India, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Turkey, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Egypt. Check the current feature and account eligibility before relying on a comparison; a peer benchmark is not a universal target for every seller or listing.

How to compare rates without misleading yourself

  • Match the metric: compare unit session percentage with the same session-based measure, or purchase rate with the same Ads attribution metric.
  • Match the period: use the same start and end dates for the values being compared.
  • Match the scope: keep the ASIN or variation scope consistent.
  • Check the denominator: sessions, page views, and ad clicks are not substitutes for one another.
  • Check attribution: Ads purchase rate includes purchases attributed within its seven-day post-click window; Seller Central unit session percentage uses sessions.
  • Inspect context before assigning cause: a change in traffic mix, offer availability, period, or attribution basis can change a rate even if the listing itself did not change.

What can you do if listing performance needs attention?

Treat listing improvements as hypotheses to test, not guaranteed conversion lifts. Amazon’s seller guide and its discussion of Business Reports point to tools and practices that can help you investigate:

  • Review the detail page’s title, description, and keywords for relevance and clarity.
  • Use clear, high-quality images and video to show the product and help shoppers understand it.
  • Consider A+ Content for additional product information or comparison charts.
  • Review customer feedback and reviews for recurring questions or product concerns.
  • Use Brand Analytics for aggregated customer and brand performance data; Amazon says it is available to sellers with a Professional selling plan and Brand Registry enrollment.
  • Where eligible, use Manage Your Experiments to test detail-page titles, images, descriptions, and A+ Content.
  • Separate traffic acquisition from listing outcomes: Amazon Ads can increase visibility, while session-based reporting helps assess listing performance. Keep ad-attributed purchase rate as a separate campaign measure.

Amazon’s guide also discusses website speed, mobile experience, checkout, payment methods, and shipping as general ecommerce factors. Those considerations apply to a seller’s own website; they are not marketplace checkout controls a seller can freely change on Amazon.

Why might two Amazon dashboards show different percentages?

A reported difference can follow from different definitions rather than an error. One figure may count units against sessions; another may count ad-attributed purchases against clicks. The date ranges, listing scope, or attribution rules may differ as well. Compare the metric labels and underlying definitions before interpreting a discrepancy; a seller-forum question about this issue is useful as an example of the confusion, not as an authoritative definition: “Unit Session Percentage vs. Conversion %”.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
