The FTC litigation is separate: the agency’s cases contain allegations, not findings that Amazon broke the law, and the available announcements and case records do not establish that the lawsuits caused the fee changes.
What are Amazon’s 2026 seller fees?
There is no single change that applies to every seller or product. The effect depends on the marketplace, fee type, product category and price band, product dimensions, fulfillment service, and effective date. Amazon’s US and European announcements describe different changes, and the later fulfillment surcharge has its own service and geographic coverage.

How much are Amazon FBA fees going up in the US?
Amazon’s 2025 US announcement put the average 2026 FBA increase at $0.08 per unit sold, less than 0.5% of an average item’s selling price. That figure averages across units; it does not mean that each seller’s fees, or each ASIN’s fees, will increase by eight cents. A particular product’s change depends on its applicable fees and attributes.
Amazon said the more granular structure was intended to align charges with underlying costs, services, and value. It also said sellers could find lower-cost fee options by adjusting packaging, choosing lower-cost inbound shipping, and maintaining healthy inventory. The announcement said there would be no new US FBA fee types in 2026. These are Amazon’s explanations and suggestions, not a guarantee that a given seller can reduce costs.

How to check your own US product fees
- Review the current fee for each product using Amazon’s Revenue Calculator and the Fee and Economics Preview report.
- Use Profit Analytics to examine product economics, then compare the result with the product’s own fee and fulfillment details.
- Check the current US fee schedule and any later notices before changing prices or packaging; an announced average cannot substitute for product-level figures.
Which 2026 fee changes apply in Europe?
Amazon Europe described an overall average reduction of £0.15/€0.17 per unit sold across its European stores, but the schedule includes reductions as well as selective increases. The averages should not be treated as a uniform discount: measures differ by category, price threshold, marketplace, and fee type.
Announced reductions
- Parcel FBA fulfillment fees fell by an average of £0.26/€0.32 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.
- For Clothing and Accessories, Amazon reduced referral fees in specified price bands: from 8% to 5% at and up to £15/€15, and from 15% to 10% between £15/€15 and £20/€20.
- From January 5, 2026, Amazon announced specified referral-fee reductions below local price thresholds for Home Products; Pet Clothing and Food; Grocery and Gourmet; and Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements. It also extended reduced Low-price FBA rates to products priced at or below £20/€20 in most categories.
The announcement’s category and local threshold qualifications matter: the price bands and reductions should not be generalized to every product or European marketplace.

Selected increases
Amazon said it would selectively increase monthly storage, return-to-seller, and liquidation fees, and update FBA fulfillment fees in the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, and Poland. It estimated that these listed increases together would add an average of £0.02/€0.02 per FBA unit sold. That average sits alongside—not in place of—the broader European average reduction, because the figures describe different groups of changes.
How does the 3.5% fulfillment surcharge work?
The surcharge is calculated as a percentage of fulfillment fees, not the selling price. For example, if an applicable fulfillment fee were $5, 3.5% of that fee would be $0.175 before any rounding or other applicable charges. This is a calculation example, not a claim about a specific product’s fee.

Amazon’s announcement specified these services and start dates:
- April 17, 2026: FBA in the US and Canada, and Remote Fulfillment with FBA from the US into Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
- May 2, 2026: Buy with Prime in the US and Multi-Channel Fulfillment in the US and Canada.
Amazon estimated an average US FBA effect of $0.17 per unit, with variation by item size and dimensions. It said the Revenue Calculator, Profit Analytics, and Fee and Economics Preview tools had been updated. Amazon characterized the surcharge as temporary and subject to evaluation, so sellers should verify the latest notice for their marketplace and service rather than assume the announced surcharge remains unchanged.

Is the FTC lawsuit related to Amazon’s seller fee changes?
The available sources do not establish a causal connection. Amazon’s US and European fee announcements cite alignment with underlying costs and operational efficiency. The FTC’s case materials describe separate allegations about competition and seller treatment. Timing or subject-matter overlap is not evidence that one caused the other.
The FTC e-commerce case
The FTC case summary says the agency, 18 state attorneys general, and Puerto Rico sued Amazon, alleging that it used interlocking anticompetitive and unfair strategies to illegally maintain monopoly power and overcharge sellers, among other alleged harms. Those are allegations, not findings of liability. The docket records a September 30, 2024 order on Amazon’s motion to dismiss and a second amended complaint dated October 31, 2024; those procedural events do not by themselves establish that the allegations are true.

The separate advertising-surcharge case
A different FTC docket page, updated August 31, 2026, lists a pending case with state partners over an alleged secret advertising surcharge scheme. That case concerns a distinct allegation; it is not the e-commerce monopolization suit and is not the 2026 FBA fee schedule. The allegations should not be presented as established facts.
What sellers should compare before changing prices
Use product-level numbers rather than a regional average. For each product, compare the same marketplace and time period, and separate the applicable cost categories:
- Marketplace and local fee schedule.
- Referral fee, fulfillment fee, storage fee, return-to-seller or liquidation charge, and any applicable surcharge.
- Product category and price band, including whether a stated threshold is met.
- Package dimensions and the fulfillment program used.
- The effective date of each change, since the European updates and surcharge did not all begin together.
