Amazon says it has 80,000 employees across Seattle, Bellevue and the wider Puget Sound region, while its Bellevue office page reports more than 11,000 employees there and says it plans to bring 25,000 jobs to Bellevue in the next few years. Those company figures clarify the scale of Amazon’s regional presence, but they do not verify the older headline claim that the company had passed 75,000 Seattle-area employees: the date, geography and counting method behind that number are not established.
What does the 75,000 figure mean?
The 75,000 figure appears in the historical title framing, but its original publication date, geographic boundary and methodology are not established. It should not be treated as a current headcount or compared directly with Amazon’s later figures as if they formed a consistent time series.
Amazon’s currently indexed pages provide newer company statements with different scopes. The company’s Washington investment page describes 80,000 employees across Seattle, Bellevue and the Puget Sound region. Its HQ1 page reports more than 11,000 employees in Bellevue. Neither statement independently verifies the older 75,000 figure.
What Amazon says about Bellevue growth
Amazon’s HQ1 location page, updated October 6, 2026, says Bellevue has more than 11,000 employees and that the company plans to bring 25,000 jobs there “in the next few years.” Amazon describes Bellevue as the focus of its next phase of growth in the region. The 25,000 figure is a forward-looking company plan, not a count of jobs already in Bellevue.

The company’s Washington page also describes The Meadow, a 1.75-acre public open space at its Bellevue 600 office development. That is one detail of the development, but it does not establish how many jobs the project will produce or explain the cause or scale of Amazon’s hiring.
Where Amazon says its regional footprint extends
Amazon’s listed Puget Sound presence reaches beyond Seattle and Bellevue. The company identifies offices in Seattle and Bellevue; fulfillment centers in Kent, Sumner and DuPont; an air hub at SeaTac; and an Amazon Leo research and development facility in Redmond.

This footprint helps explain why a regional workforce number is not the same as a Seattle city count. Amazon’s 80,000 figure covers Seattle, Bellevue and the Puget Sound, while its Bellevue figure refers to one city. The Bellevue figures are already part of the broader regional picture; they should not be added to the 80,000.

| Figure | Geography and measure | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 75,000 employees | Seattle area; original date, boundary and method not established | Historical title claim only; not a verified current count. |
| 80,000 employees | Seattle, Bellevue and Puget Sound; Amazon’s regional statement | Amazon’s company-reported regional workforce figure, not a Seattle city total. |
| More than 11,000 employees | Bellevue; Amazon’s HQ1 location page, updated October 6, 2026 | Amazon’s reported current Bellevue workforce figure. |
| 25,000 jobs in the next few years | Bellevue; Amazon’s stated plan on its HQ1 page | A forward-looking target, not jobs already filled. |
The figures come from Amazon, and the available sources do not establish an equivalent independent count using the same geography and method. They are useful for understanding what Amazon says about its scale and direction, not as a standardized labor-market series.
