Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete: Arise Capital Partners bought the club on 2 May 2026, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership. The available reporting does not verify the supplied headline’s claim that a new “ambitious takeover plan” surfaced. Instead, it documents Chansiri’s account of rejected offers in 2025, a later bidder’s withdrawal, the administrators’ selection of Arise and the completed sale.
What happened to Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover?
The sale unfolded through several stages rather than one continuous deal. Chansiri said he had rejected two offers in summer 2025. A consortium led by James Bord later pursued a reported £47.8 million takeover but withdrew on 25 February 2026. Administrators then named Arise Capital Partners as preferred bidder on 10 March, and Arise completed its purchase on 2 May 2026.
The original source behind the supplied “ambitious takeover plan” wording has not been identified in the available reporting. It should not be treated as confirmation of a separate or still-pending offer.
How the bids and sale developed
| Date | Stage | What was reported |
|---|---|---|
| Summer 2025; reported 3 September 2025 | Offers Chansiri said he rejected | BBC Sport reported that Chansiri acknowledged turning down two offers. He described them as £40 million and £30 million, with the latter from a US-based group. These are amounts from his account, not independently verified transaction values. BBC also reported an understood valuation of about £100 million at the time; it is historical, not a current valuation. BBC Sport |
| 25 February 2026 | Bord-led proposal withdrawn | A consortium led by James Bord withdrew from a proposed £47.8 million takeover. The administrators said they would immediately re-engage with other interested parties. The reporting does not establish that this proposal had the same terms as the offers Chansiri described in 2025. BBC Sport |
| 10 March 2026 | Arise named preferred bidder | The joint administrators named Arise Capital Partners LLC as preferred bidder, identifying David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as members. They said Arise had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds; its offer was below the amount needed to pay creditors 25p in the pound. Sheffield Wednesday administrators’ update |

What Chansiri said about the earlier offers
In a BBC Sport report published on 3 September 2025, Chansiri said he was willing to sell but that “the deal must be correct on all fronts.” He described the two earlier offers as worth £40 million and £30 million. Those figures reflect his reported account; the available coverage does not provide independently verified offer documents or establish the offers’ terms.

The same report cited an understood valuation of about £100 million and football finance expert Kieran Maguire’s comments on revenue, the stadium’s condition and stadium ownership as factors in valuation. That was context reported in 2025, not a verified valuation for the eventual sale. BBC Sport’s report on Chansiri’s comments
Why the administrators chose Arise
The administrators’ 10 March 2026 update is the source for Arise’s preferred-bidder status, named members, deposit and evidence of funds, and the assessment that the offer fell short of the amount required to return 25p in the pound to creditors. They described their aim as securing a responsible sale, protecting the club’s future and achieving the best possible outcome for creditors. Preferred-bidder status was not itself a completed purchase; completion came on 2 May. Administrators’ sale update

Did Sheffield Wednesday get a 15-point deduction?
No. After Arise completed the purchase and the club exited administration, the EFL waived the planned 15-point deduction. BBC Sport reported that budget restrictions would remain for two seasons, while player signings would still be allowed. ITV also reported the EFL’s decision. BBC Sport · ITV
The EFL said it had exercised discretion under its Insolvency Policy and concluded that imposing the deduction after the club’s exit from administration would not be appropriate. The decision was specific to the circumstances of this sale and does not mean that a points deduction is automatically waived in other insolvency cases. ITV’s report on the EFL decision
