Amazon’s optional grocery delivery subscription is an add-on, not a benefit included automatically with Prime. Amazon’s updated U.S. service page lists a $25 minimum for free delivery on covered orders and a discounted $4.99 monthly price for Prime Access members. What you can order and which delivery or pickup options you can use depend on your address and account.
What the grocery delivery subscription includes
The subscription provides free delivery on qualifying orders from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and participating local grocery and specialty retailers. Amazon lists retailers such as Cardenas Markets, Save Mart, and Pet Food Express among examples, but participation is location-dependent.
Amazon also describes one-hour delivery windows at no extra cost where available, free 30-minute pickup on orders of any size, and priority access to weekly recurring reservations. These options depend on local availability; check the choices shown for your address before subscribing.
Who can subscribe and what it costs
Amazon announced the add-on in 2024 for Prime members and qualifying customers using EBT. Its service information updated May 12, 2026 describes a discounted $4.99 monthly subscription for Prime Access members. That is the stated add-on price, not the price of Prime membership. Confirm the price and eligibility shown in your account because terms can change.

Amazon also describes grocery access for some customers without Prime. Eligibility and the offer available to a particular customer may differ, so check Amazon’s current terms rather than assuming that every customer can subscribe on the same terms.
What order minimum applies?
Amazon’s updated service page lists a $25 threshold for covered grocery delivery orders; its ordering guide says the threshold applies to Whole Foods orders in most areas. Kiplinger reported a $35 minimum on October 2, 2026, which conflicts with Amazon’s published $25 threshold. Amazon’s service information is the primary source for its stated terms, but the minimum displayed at checkout for your address is the practical one to verify.

How to decide if it is worth the fee
Compare the subscription cost with the delivery charges you expect to avoid, based on your household’s actual ordering habits. There is no independent published statistic establishing typical subscriber savings, so a general savings claim would not tell you what you will save.
- How often you order: More qualifying deliveries give you more chances to offset the monthly fee.
- Your usual basket size: If your orders often fall below the local minimum, the free-delivery benefit may be less useful unless you can comfortably add items you need.
- Local service options: One-hour windows, pickup, and recurring reservations have value only if they are available and fit your routine.
- Your eligibility: If you qualify for Prime Access, compare the discounted subscription offer shown to you with your likely use.
