Amazon’s 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to specified fulfillment fees—not to the sale price of an item. It began April 17, 2026, for FBA in the U.S. and Canada and for U.S.-based Remote Fulfillment with FBA shipments to Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. The charge began May 2 for Buy with Prime in the U.S. and Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) in the U.S. and Canada. Amazon has not announced an end date.
How the surcharge is calculated
Amazon applies the 3.5% rate to eligible fulfillment fees. It is not a 3.5% fee on the item’s sale price. In its announcement, Amazon stated: “The surcharge will be calculated on your fulfillment fees, not on the sale price of your items.” Amazon’s seller-forum announcement
For example, if an eligible fulfillment fee were $5, 3.5% of that fee would be 17.5 cents. That illustration is arithmetic, not a statement about any specific product’s fee; actual fees and surcharge amounts depend on the applicable fulfillment fee.
Which services and regions are affected
Amazon announced different effective dates by service. The scope below is the geography specified in its announcement; it should not be read as applying to every Amazon service or marketplace.

Amazon’s 2026 U.S. FBA fee guidance also says the surcharge applies to holiday peak fulfillment fees from October 15, 2026, through January 14, 2027.
How much sellers may pay
Amazon estimated an average impact of $0.17 per unit for U.S. FBA. The company said the actual amount varies with an item’s size and dimensions, so the average is not a per-unit rate that sellers should apply to every product. It is Amazon’s estimate, not an independent calculation, and should not be assumed to describe Canada, Remote Fulfillment, Buy with Prime, or MCF.

How to estimate the effect on your business
Amazon says its Revenue Calculator, Profit Analytics dashboard, and Fee and Economics Preview reports were updated to reflect the surcharge and can help estimate per-unit and overall business impact. Use the estimate for the specific service, marketplace, and products you sell, then assess how the added fulfillment cost changes your margins. Amazon recommends these tools; their outputs have not been independently tested here.

No end date appears in Amazon’s announcement. Amazon calls the surcharge temporary and says it will continue to evaluate it as conditions evolve, but it has not specified when it will be removed.
