What APSC announced
The Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) issued Advertisement No. 12/2021, dated 17 December 2021, for five Inspector of Factories posts under Assam’s Labour Welfare Department. The notice’s detailed conditions are available in an indexed copy of the advertisement; the vacancy and dates were also reported contemporaneously by secondary coverage.
Who was eligible?
Engineering or technology degree
The notice required a degree in any branch of Engineering or Technology. Mechanical, Chemical and Electrical Engineering were preferred, but the wording did not make those the only eligible branches. A degree in another engineering or technology branch could meet the education requirement, subject to the remaining conditions.
Two years of practical experience
Applicants also needed two years of practical experience in a workshop or manufacturing concern of good standing. The experience requirement was separate from the degree requirement; having the degree by itself did not satisfy the stated eligibility conditions.

Age limit and relaxations
The general age range was 23 to 38 years as of 1 January 2021. The indexed advertisement states upper-age relaxations of five years for SC/ST candidates, three years for OBC/MOBC candidates and ten years for persons with benchmark disabilities, subject to the rules cited in the notice. Applicants would have needed to meet the relevant category conditions in that advertisement.
Application dates and process
The online application window opened on 20 December 2021 and closed on 20 January 2022. The closing date was the default date for determining eligibility unless the advertisement specified otherwise. Since the deadline has passed, these dates are useful for identifying the 2021 recruitment, not as an invitation to apply now.

The advertisement directed candidates to apply through APSC’s recruitment portal after registering and completing the required profile and document steps. A contemporaneous report gives category fee details, but the descriptions vary in how they distinguish the application fee from the processing charge; consult the secondary fee report alongside the notice rather than treating one combined figure as universal.
