Cristiano Ronaldo’s documented philanthropy includes sustained advocacy as a Save the Children ambassador, a donation for child-friendly spaces serving Rohingya children in Bangladesh, and a reported private donation for children affected by the war in Syria. The available evidence does not establish which was “biggest” by money given or impact—and Save the Children explicitly said a widely repeated claim that he donated millions to its Nepal earthquake response was false.
What “biggest” can—and can’t—mean here
There is no reliable way to rank these efforts by donation amount or results. Some sources describe advocacy, while others report donations whose amounts were not disclosed. The available accounts also do not provide a common measure of services delivered or people helped. The fairest comparison is therefore by contribution type, beneficiary, geography, and strength of documentation—not by an unsupported dollar figure.
Save the Children: a sustained ambassador role
Save the Children’s 2013 annual report says Ronaldo joined the organisation as a Global Artist Ambassador in 2012. It describes his focus as fighting child hunger and obesity and promoting physical activity and healthy eating. The organisation’s [Italian-language announcement](URL) described his work as focused on child malnutrition and infant and child nutrition.
The annual report also says the Twitter announcement of his commitment generated 16.5 million impressions. That is a measure of the announcement’s reach, not money raised, programme results, or children directly helped by Ronaldo. Separately, the report says Save the Children’s hunger programmes benefited 14.4 million children in 2013; that is an organisation-wide figure and should not be attributed to him.

Nepal earthquake response: the donation claim was false
Ronaldo urged followers to support Save the Children’s relief work after the 2015 Nepal earthquake. The charity thanked him for raising awareness, but said the reported donation was false. The Guardian reproduced the organisation’s statement: “The latest information on the donation of Cristiano Ronaldo to the emergency response of Save the Children in Nepal is false.”
Media reports gave differing figures for the rumoured gift, but none should be treated as his actual donation. His documented contribution in this case was public advocacy, not the alleged multi-million-dollar donation.

Rohingya children: a donation for child-friendly spaces
A Save the Children announcement distributed by PR Newswire says Ronaldo donated in support of the organisation’s Rohingya humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The contribution was for child-friendly spaces—places where children can play and socialise in a safer environment. The announcement does not disclose the donation amount, so it cannot support a comparison by value with his other reported gifts.
Syria: a reported private donation
Spanish outlet AS reported in December 2016 that Ronaldo donated to Save the Children for children and families affected by the war in Syria. The amount was not disclosed at his request. According to the report’s account of the charity’s plans, the money was intended to support food, clothing, emergency medical care, and psychological support. This is a reported donation, but the published account gives no figure with which to rank it.

How to read the evidence
| Initiative | Contribution described | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Save the Children ambassador work | Advocacy on child hunger, obesity, nutrition, and healthy habits | Save the Children’s 2013 annual report describes the role and records 16.5 million impressions for the announcement; it does not establish a donation amount or an attributable programme outcome. |
| Nepal earthquake response | Public appeal to support relief | Save the Children said the reported donation was false; no rumoured amount is a verified gift. |
| Rohingya response in Cox’s Bazar | Donation for child-friendly spaces | Save the Children’s announcement identifies the purpose and location, but does not state an amount. |
| Children affected by the war in Syria | Reported donation to Save the Children | AS reported in December 2016 that the amount was undisclosed; it described intended support for food, clothing, emergency medical care, and psychological support. |
These records are historical accounts, not confirmation that Ronaldo currently holds an active charity role or that any named campaign is still open. They do support a clear distinction: public visibility and advocacy can help direct attention to a cause, but impressions are not donations, and a donation’s purpose does not reveal its size or its eventual results.
