What Aldi announced in 2021
PerthNow reported on 8 June 2021 that Aldi planned six additional stores in Western Australia over the next two years, as the retailer marked its fifth anniversary in the state. Aldi’s June 2021 announcement also described a mix of metropolitan and regional expansion. The plan was a statement of intent at the time, not a current commitment to open more stores.
The four locations named in the report were Karrinyup, Willetton, Clarkson and Albany. The other two were not identified, so their locations cannot be established from the announcement.

The dates in the table are forecasts made in 2021, not upcoming opening dates. The centre’s current listing confirms Karrinyup only; it does not verify the eventual status of all six locations in the wider plan.

Karrinyup Shopping Centre lists Aldi at 200 Karrinyup Road, Karrinyup WA 6018, on the Ground Floor in The Fresh Market. The centre’s Aldi page provides day-specific trading hours and cautions that retailer hours may differ from centre hours. Check the current Aldi listing before visiting because hours can change.
What Aldi said about its WA contribution
PerthNow attributed the expansion comments to Caroline MacPhail, Aldi’s WA managing director at the time. MacPhail said: “We have come a long way since opening our first few stores back in 2016 and we are excited to continue our expansion into new locations.”

The 2021 report also attributed several historical figures to Aldi: 47 stores and 830 staff in Western Australia, partnerships with 80 WA businesses, and more than 1.3 million meals donated to charity partners in the preceding year. These are figures reported in 2021, not current totals. MacPhail also described Aldi as helping drive down grocery prices; that was her assessment, not an independently established finding here.
PerthNow further reported that PricewaterhouseCoopers estimated Aldi’s economic contribution to Australia at $30.2 billion over its first 20 years. This was an estimate attributed to PwC in the 2021 report, not a current independently verified figure.
