How many aircraft did Airbus and Boeing deliver in 2024?
The companies’ reported totals show a clear difference in commercial-aircraft deliveries. Airbus reports its total as “commercial aircraft”; Boeing’s figure is for its Commercial Airplanes segment.

The percentage changes are calculated from the companies’ reported annual totals. Airbus delivered 207 more aircraft than Boeing in 2023; the difference widened to 418 in 2024. Airbus reported its 2024 total on January 9, 2025, and Boeing reported its 2024 and 2023 Commercial Airplanes totals on January 28, 2025.
What changed from 2023 to 2024?
Airbus deliveries increased by 31
Airbus’s total rose from 735 commercial aircraft in 2023 to 766 in 2024. Its family breakdown shows that A220 deliveries increased from 68 to 75, and A320-family deliveries increased from 571 to 602. A330-family deliveries stayed at 32, while A350 deliveries decreased from 64 to 57. These figures describe the mix within Airbus’s total; they do not explain Boeing’s decline.

Boeing deliveries decreased by 180
Boeing Commercial Airplanes delivered 528 aircraft in 2023 and 348 in 2024. Boeing reported the year-over-year decrease as 34%.
What contributed to Boeing’s difficult year?
The Associated Press reported that Boeing’s output faced increased government scrutiny and a machinists’ strike, which hampered its ability to deliver aircraft. The coverage placed the year in the aftermath of the Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 737-9 door-plug incident and the scrutiny that followed. That context helps explain the operating challenges, but it does not establish that any one event alone caused the full-year delivery decline. What the delivery comparison does—and does not—show
On the specific measure of annual commercial-aircraft deliveries, Airbus delivered more than Boeing in 2024. The totals are unit counts, not a measure of aircraft value, revenue, production capacity, financial health, quality, or future performance. They also do not compare every aircraft or business segment at either corporation.
Orders and deliveries are different measures: an order is not an aircraft delivered that year. Airbus reported 878 gross commercial-aircraft orders and 826 net orders in 2024, alongside a year-end commercial-aircraft backlog of 8,658. Those figures provide context for Airbus’s order book, but they do not change the delivery comparison.

Airbus CEO Commercial Aircraft Christian Scherer said in the company’s January 9, 2025 announcement, “2024 confirmed sustained demand for new aircraft.” The statement reflects Airbus’s view of demand; it does not make the delivery totals a broader financial comparison.
