Tianjin’s second line reached a documented milestone in September 2026, when Airbus said it delivered its first aircraft from the line.
What Airbus opened in Mobile and Tianjin
The two expansions add capacity in different markets, but Airbus presents them as parts of one globally distributed production network. The facilities should not be treated as identical: Airbus disclosed different site configurations and milestones, and the figures do not establish that the lines have the same output, staffing or aircraft mix.

The scale figures also describe different things. Airbus says the Tianjin line that opened in 2008 had assembled and delivered more than 800 A320 Family aircraft by September 2026; that cumulative total belongs to the original line’s history, not the newer line’s output. How the expansions support Airbus’s 2027 production target
Airbus tied the additional capacity at both sites to a company target of assembling 75 A320 Family aircraft per month in 2027. That is a planned global rate, not a reported achievement or a promise that either new line will individually produce a specified number each month.

At Mobile’s opening, Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer said the second line effectively doubled the site’s A320 Family capacity and described the global network as “resilient, efficient, and globally diversified.” At Tianjin’s opening, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said the line would provide flexibility and capacity for the 75-aircraft monthly plan. Why build in both markets?
The locations put assembly capacity near two important customer markets: Mobile serves the United States and Gulf Coast region, while Tianjin is in China. Airbus’s stated case centers on customer demand, capacity, flexibility and a geographically diversified production system.

Airbus’s September 2026 release forecast that China would require 8,830 of the 42,060 new passenger aircraft it expects worldwide over 2026–2045—more than 20% of its global forecast. The Tianjin first delivery shows the new line has moved beyond its opening and commissioning plans, but one delivery does not reveal its recurring throughput. The available announcements also do not establish sustained output from Mobile’s second A320 line or confirm that Airbus has reached its global 2027 target.
