In Thomas Ricker’s May 10, 2025 review for The Verge, the open lattice felt comfortable and breathable, but the shoe was heavier and more rigid than he expected. He found it better suited to casual city wear than trails or board sports.
What is the Adidas Climacool 3D-printed sneaker?
Climacool is a fully 3D-printed, single-piece shoe. Its rubbery lattice changes density across the design: it is denser at the sole and more open toward the upper. The construction is intended to balance cushioning with flexibility, while allowing air and water to pass through.
That makes it different from Adidas’s earlier 4D running shoes. As Ricker explains in The Verge’s May 10, 2025 review, those are multi-material sneakers with 3D printing limited to the midsole; Climacool is printed as a whole shoe. The review quotes the shoe’s tagline as “Made like nothing, feels like nothing, looks like nothing,” without naming an individual Adidas speaker for it.
How did it feel to wear?
Ricker said the shoe conformed comfortably around his foot and praised its soft, responsive integrated insole. But it was heavier and more rigid than he expected, even though he could fold it. Those are one reviewer’s impressions, not results from a controlled comparison or a guarantee of how it will feel on every foot.

Putting it on
The slip-on opening felt snug to Ricker and was difficult to get into; he found that it could snag socks. If you prefer a roomy opening or need to put shoes on quickly, that is a practical drawback to weigh against the convenience of a laceless design.
Ventilation, water and debris
The lattice lets air and water through, but openness has a trade-off: when Ricker wore the shoe without socks, sand and other debris could collect between his foot and the shoe. On a gritty trail, he turned back after about 1 km (roughly half a mile), when he first noticed signs of heel blistering. This is a report of his outing, not a claim that the shoe will cause blisters for everyone.

Where does Climacool make the most sense?
Ricker’s verdict was that the shoe felt most at home worn casually around the city. Its breathable, unusual construction may appeal for everyday wear, but his experience points to compromises for activities that demand a secure, easy entry or a protected interface between foot and ground.
- Casual city wear: This was the setting Ricker considered the best fit for the shoe.
- Gritty trails: Debris entered the shoe during his sockless outing, and he stopped after about 1 km at the first signs of heel blistering.
- Board sports: On a stand-up paddleboard, he felt the thick sole reduced his sense of the board beneath his feet.
How do you clean the 3D-printed lattice?
Ricker says the shoes can be soaked in soapy water and scrubbed. He used a toothpick to dislodge pebbles caught in the lattice, particularly on the underside. The review does not call for a specialty cleaner or recommend a particular cleaning product.

What did it cost, and is it available now?
At the time of Ricker’s May 10, 2025 review, Climacool was reported at $140, available through the Adidas Confirmed app and select Adidas stores, and offered in one off-white colorway. Those are launch-period details, not confirmation of today’s price, colors, stock or availability in any particular region.
