Not exactly. Nex Playground ranked ahead of one PS5 model in a single U.S. weekly hardware ranking—not ahead of the entire PS5 family. For the week ending November 22, 2025, it placed second among hardware SKUs, between the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle and the PS5 Slim Digital 1 TB.
What the ranking actually measured
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella shared a U.S. ranking of hardware SKUs by units sold for the week ending November 22, 2025. The list put Nex Playground Interactive Gaming System in second place, above the PS5 Slim Digital 1 TB SKU in third. The Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle ranked first. The list reported positions, not unit totals, so it does not show how many systems sold or the size of the gap. Insider Gaming reported Piscatella’s ranking.
A hardware SKU is a specific product configuration. The PS5 Slim Digital 1 TB is one configuration, not every PS5 model combined. The result therefore supports the narrow headline that Nex ranked above that PS5 SKU for that week; it does not establish that Nex outsold the PS5 family overall or had greater long-term market share.
How Nex compared during Black Friday week
A separate measure gives a different picture. For Black Friday week in 2025, PS5 accounted for 47% of U.S. hardware unit sales, compared with 24% for Switch 2 and 14% for Nex Playground, according to Circana figures reported by GameSpot. Piscatella said the PS5 received the most extensive discounting and saw a big sales lift. These figures cover a different period and compare shares of hardware unit sales; they should not be combined with the November 22 SKU ranking.

What the Nex Playground is
Nex Playground is a TV-connected active-play game system. A wide-angle camera and the company’s motion engine let players control games by moving in front of the screen, rather than using a conventional game controller. The included remote is for setup and navigating game selections, not gameplay.
The manufacturer lists HDMI, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, a remote, power and HDMI cables, and a magnetic privacy cover in the box. It recommends about 6 ft × 6 ft of play space and recommends the system for ages 5 and up. Nex says children ages 3 and 4 may enjoy more games with an adult or older sibling; these are the company’s recommendations, not an independent assessment. See the Nex Playground product page for current product details.

What games are included, and what does Play Pass add?
The starter pack includes five games: Fruit Ninja, Starri, Party Fowl, Go Keeper, and Whac-a-Mole Deluxe. Nex says the starter pack can be used without Play Pass, so buying the console does not require a subscription.
Play Pass is optional and unlocks the larger catalog, which the manufacturer listed as 60+ games when its page was checked on October 7, 2026. The catalog includes family and licensed titles such as Bluey, Barbie, Sesame Street, and NHL Puck Rush, and Nex says the pass also brings monthly new content. The catalog can change; check the official Play Pass page for its current lineup.

What does Nex Playground cost?
On October 7, 2026, Nex’s U.S. product page listed the console at $239 on sale against a $299 regular price. That sale price is time-sensitive, not a guaranteed ongoing price; check the official page or retailer before buying.
The same date, Nex listed Play Pass at $49 for three months or $89 for twelve months. Those optional plans are an ongoing cost if you want access to the expanded catalog; the five-game starter pack does not require them. Plan prices and terms can change, so verify them on the official Play Pass page before purchase.

Is it a PS5 alternative?
Nex Playground and PS5 serve different kinds of play. Nex is built around camera-based movement and a family-oriented active-play catalog, with five starter games and an optional pass for more. PS5 is a conventional controller-led console with its own game library. The weekly SKU ranking does not show that the two systems are interchangeable or direct competitors in overall sales.
For a household considering Nex, the practical questions are whether there is clear space in front of the TV, whether motion-based games fit the players’ ages and interests, and whether the included games are enough or the optional Play Pass catalog justifies its recurring cost.
