If “fastest” means highest documented top speed, the strongest sourced example under $100,000 is the 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray: Chevrolet reports that a 1LT without the Z51 Performance Package reached 200 mph on a closed course. That is a manufacturer-reported run, not an independent comparison of every new car for sale in the United States. It also is not the same as being the quickest from a stop: acceleration figures such as 0–60 mph measure a different kind of performance.
What does “fastest” mean here?
Top speed, 0–60 mph acceleration, quarter-mile time and lap time are different measures. This comparison uses the clearest available evidence for the headline question: U.S. new-car base price below $100,000 and a manufacturer-documented top-speed figure. It does not establish an exhaustive, independently tested ranking of all eligible cars.
On that basis, Chevrolet’s 2027 Corvette Stingray is a compelling lead example, not a proven market-wide champion. Chevrolet says a 1LT without the Z51 Performance Package reached 200 mph during a professional-driver closed-course run. The company also describes 200 mph as the Stingray’s top speed on track. Chevrolet’s June 30, 2026 report describes the run and its configuration.
How fast is the Corvette Stingray?
| Measure | What Chevrolet states | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Top speed | 200 mph, reported for a 2027 Stingray 1LT without Z51 in a closed-course run | A manufacturer-reported result; not an independent market comparison or a public-road target |
| 0–60 mph | As little as 2.8 seconds, listed as an available claim on Chevrolet’s 2027 Stingray product page | An acceleration figure, distinct from top speed. Do not assume it describes the same configuration as the 200-mph run. |
Chevrolet’s 2027 Corvette Stingray product page lists the available 2.8-second 0–60-mph figure. The manufacturer’s top-speed report names a different specific configuration, so the two figures should not be combined into a claim about one car unless Chevrolet confirms that configuration pairing.

Does the Stingray fit the $100,000 budget?
Chevrolet’s June 2026 newsroom report lists a $73,495 starting MSRP. Its live product page currently displays a $71,300 starting price and a $90,535 price for a 3LT Coupe. Chevrolet’s official pages therefore show different price snapshots; these figures should not be treated as a single, settled current quote. Check the live builder for the model year, trim, destination charge and selected options before deciding whether a specific car stays below your budget. The product page and Chevrolet’s lineup information are useful starting points.
“Under $100,000” can mean either a model’s base MSRP is below the cap or the particular car, with destination and options, is below it. Those tests are not interchangeable. Chevrolet’s lineup material shows that some configurations can cross the threshold even when a model’s base price is below it. Confirm the final price for the exact trim and equipment rather than relying on a model name alone.

What about the quickest car under $100,000?
If by “fastest” you mean quickest acceleration, the available figures point to a separate comparison. Tesla says the Model 3 Performance can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.9 seconds. That manufacturer-stated acceleration figure is close to Chevrolet’s available Stingray claim, but it does not establish a top-speed winner or, by itself, confirm that a particular Model 3 Performance configuration currently costs less than $100,000. Tesla’s Model 3 page provides the manufacturer’s claim.
For a sound shortlist, compare the same metric on the same basis: manufacturer claims with manufacturer claims, or independently instrumented results with comparable tests. A 0–60 time cannot rank top speed, and a closed-course result should not be read as a measure of legal or safe speed on public roads.

What to check before buying
- Choose the performance measure. Decide whether you care about top speed, launch acceleration, quarter-mile performance or track times.
- Match the configuration. Verify model year, trim and performance package; performance claims may apply only to a specific setup.
- Check the actual price. Compare the current builder total, including destination and chosen options, with your $100,000 limit.
- Keep the context in view. Chevrolet’s 200-mph result was a professional-driver closed-course run. It is not permission or guidance to attempt that speed on public roads.
