The “up for sale” headline refers to a 2015 campaign: an archived listing records Luna Maxi sold on 26 November 2015, and Knight Frank later reported a $70 million sale to Far East Organization. Far East’s current property page lists the centre, but does not say it is being marketed for sale.
What happened to Luna Maxi?
PerthNow reported on 22 April 2015 that the Luna Maxi shopping-centre site had been put up for sale. The campaign closed on 4 June 2015. An archived realcommercial.com.au listing records the property as sold on 26 November 2015.
A Knight Frank research table published in 2016 reports the November 2015 sale at $70.0 million, identifying CCI Group as seller and Far East Organization as buyer. That is a historical sale figure, not a current valuation.
Is the centre for sale now?
The 2015 sale campaign should not be read as a current listing. Far East Organization’s property page identifies Luna Maxi Mart Shopping Centre at 6 Scarborough Beach Road as one of its properties and describes it as a neighbourhood centre. The page does not state that the property is currently for sale. The reviewed sources do not establish whether it has been offered again since 2015.

What was being sold?
The archived listing identifies the asset as Luna Maxi Site, 3–7 Scarborough Beach Road, Scarborough, Western Australia. Far East’s page uses 6 Scarborough Beach Road for the shopping centre; these are the address formats used by the respective sources.
- Site area: approximately 17,695 square metres, according to 2015 JLL marketing information reproduced in the archived listing.
- Floor area: 4,462 square metres, as stated in that listing.
- Sale date: 26 November 2015, as recorded by the archived listing.
- Reported sale price: $70.0 million in Knight Frank’s historical research table.
The 2015 listing promoted possible apartment, retail, hotel, short-stay, food-and-beverage and entertainment uses. Those were marketed development possibilities; the listing does not establish that a particular proposal received planning approval or was built.

How is Luna Maxi described today?
Far East Organization describes Luna Maxi as a neighbourhood centre anchored by Coles Supermarket and Revo Fitness, serving local residents, beachgoers and tourists. This is the owner’s description of the centre, not independent confirmation of every current tenancy.
A December 2020 planning report says Luna Maxi was built in 1975 and comprised Coles and specialty stores. It also says Far East Organization purchased Luna Maxi and the Rendezvous site in 2016. Those statements provide dated historical context and should not be treated as a current construction or tenancy update.

Why did the 2015 site attract attention?
The campaign highlighted the site’s scale, ocean frontage and potential for redevelopment. PerthNow quoted JLL’s Nigel Freshwater describing the site as opposite the Rendezvous Hotel and citing its “substantial ocean frontage, development flexibility and potential for scale.” These were promotional comments made during the sale campaign, not a guarantee of development outcomes.
For anyone checking the headline as a prospective buyer or investor, the distinction matters: a past sale and a historic marketing campaign do not establish current availability, planning status or value. Those would need to be confirmed through current owner or agent information and the relevant planning authority.
