Members can earn SQC from eligible Air Canada fares, eligible Aeroplan card spending, and partner activity. A separate card refresh announced in September 2026 describes additional benefits scheduled to begin in 2027.
How Aeroplan flight earning changes in 2026
For travel on or after January 1, 2026, members earn at least 1 Aeroplan point per eligible dollar spent on an eligible Air Canada flight. Eligible spending means the base fare plus carrier surcharges; taxes, fees, and third-party charges do not count. Air Canada says Elite members earn 2x to 6x points per eligible dollar, depending on their status when they travel. These are published program rates, not evidence that members generally earn more than they did under earlier rules. Air Canada’s August 6, 2025 announcement describes the change.
How to qualify for Aeroplan Elite Status
Air Canada describes SQC as the qualification measure for Elite Status in 2026. Members can build SQC through eligible fares, eligible Aeroplan credit-card spending, and eligible partner activity.
- Eligible Air Canada fares: Earn up to 4 SQC per eligible dollar, with the rate depending on fare type.
- Eligible Aeroplan card spending: The program announcement describes earning up to 25,000 SQC through eligible card spending.
- Eligible partner activity: Members may earn up to an additional 25,000 SQC through eligible partners.
The two 25,000-SQC amounts are maximums, not guaranteed balances. Actual earnings depend on activity and applicable program terms. Check the current Aeroplan rules for qualifying purchases and partners before making spending or travel decisions.

What existing and milestone benefits include
Air Canada says core Elite benefits continue according to status, including complimentary checked bags and priority airport services. The 2026 changes also add Milestone Benefits at every 10,000 SQC; examples in the announcement include bonus SQC and Status Passes. Eligible primary Aeroplan premium cardholders are scheduled to receive a 10% SQC Head Start beginning in 2027, based on the previous year’s earnings. Benefit eligibility and terms apply.
Separate card benefits scheduled for 2027
Aeroplan announced a refresh of its Canadian co-branded credit-card portfolio on September 29, 2026. These are card benefits with scheduled future start dates, distinct from the 2026 flight-earning and status changes. The announcement distributed via GlobeNewswire describes the following:

The announcement says other existing benefits remain unchanged, including a free first checked bag and priority boarding for eligible cards. Lounge, security, travel-credit, and redemption benefits are subject to their terms; confirm the relevant card issuer’s current eligibility details before applying or relying on a benefit.
How to assess whether a card benefit is useful to you
The announcement does not establish card fees or identify one card as best for every traveller. Compare the annual cost and issuer terms with benefits you can realistically use: eligible SQC-earning spend, lounge access and guest rules, the amount and timing of Wallet credits, and how often you redeem eligible flights, hotels, or rental cars. Don’t treat the maximum SQC amounts or annual credits as guaranteed value; both depend on qualifying activity and applicable terms.

What the announcements do—and do not—show
The published figures describe program rules and announced benefits, not measured member outcomes. They do not establish that typical members will earn more points or reach Elite Status faster.
