Short answer: ETFinance was historically presented as a Cyprus-based CFD and forex broker connected with Magnum FX (Cyprus) Ltd and a CySEC investment-firm licence. That history does not, by itself, prove that the ETFinance brand is currently authorised, solvent, or accepting new clients.
The key issue is current status. A broker’s website, old reviews, or a former licence number are not enough. Before depositing, check the legal entity and licence directly in the regulator’s register. If ETFinance is asking for new deposits, “tax” payments, release fees, or extra money to process a withdrawal, do not pay.
What is ETFinance?
ETFinance was marketed as an online broker offering forex and contracts for difference (CFDs), generally through MetaTrader-style trading accounts. Its product range historically included currency pairs, indices, commodities, shares and cryptocurrencies, depending on the client’s jurisdiction and the account terms in force at the time.
The brand has been associated with Magnum FX (Cyprus) Ltd, a Cyprus investment firm that was historically listed under a Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) licence. That is an important part of the broker’s history, but it is not proof of current authorisation. A brand may stop accepting clients, change its operator, lose access to a licence, or continue to appear online after its regulatory position has changed.

Is ETFinance regulated?
Historically, ETFinance was linked to a CySEC-regulated entity and the licence number commonly associated with Magnum FX (Cyprus) Ltd was 359/18. Treat that information as historical unless the current CySEC register confirms all of the following:
- The legal entity named in the register matches the entity in ETFinance’s current client agreement.
- The licence is active rather than suspended, withdrawn, or cancelled.
- The website domain you are using appears among the authorised firm’s approved websites.
- The firm is authorised to provide the specific service being offered to you.
Use the regulator’s website rather than a search advertisement or a broker directory. On CySEC’s site, search the investment-firm register for the legal company name and licence number. Then open the firm’s record and compare its approved domains, contact details and permitted services with the information on the ETFinance website.
A licence from a European regulator would normally provide more oversight than an unregulated offshore registration. It still would not make leveraged CFD trading safe. Regulation does not guarantee profits, prevent poor execution, or guarantee that every withdrawal dispute will be resolved in the customer’s favour.
The legal entity matters more than the brand
Do not judge ETFinance solely by its logo or domain name. Before opening an account, find the exact operator in the footer, terms and conditions, privacy policy and account agreement. Check:

If the sales representative gives you a different company name from the one in the regulator’s register, stop. The same applies if you are directed to send money to a personal account, a cryptocurrency wallet, or an unrelated payment processor.
Trading conditions and the main risks
ETFinance’s historical offering centred on leveraged CFDs. These products let a trader control a larger position with a smaller deposit, but losses can also accumulate quickly. A 10:1 position, for example, gives a 1% move in the underlying market approximately 10% impact on the margin supporting that position, before spreads, financing and other charges.

Important costs and risks to check in the current terms include:
- Spread: the difference between the buy and sell price.
- Commission: a separate charge on some account types or instruments.
- Overnight financing: a debit or credit for holding a leveraged position after the daily cut-off.
- Inactivity fees: charges that may apply after a period without trading.
- Currency conversion: a cost when the account currency differs from the deposit or withdrawal currency.
- Margin close-out: the broker’s right to close positions when available margin falls below its threshold.
- Slippage: execution at a different price during fast markets or thin liquidity.
Do not rely on an old review for spreads, leverage or minimum deposits. These terms can change by jurisdiction, account type and regulatory regime. Obtain the current costs in writing and read the applicable product disclosure document before funding an account.

Identity checks are normal. A broker can reasonably request proof of identity, proof of address, payment-source information and, in some cases, evidence explaining the source of funds. It may also return money to the original payment method to prevent fraud.
The following are different and should be treated as major warning signs:
- Being told to deposit more money before an existing balance can be withdrawn.
- A demand for an advance tax, insurance payment, security deposit or “unlocking fee”.
- A requirement to pay a percentage of profits before the withdrawal is released.
- Instructions to send money to an external wallet or a private bank account.
- Pressure to borrow, use a credit card, or act immediately.
- A claim that a larger deposit will upgrade you to VIP status and make withdrawals possible.
Legitimate taxes are generally dealt with through the relevant tax authority and the customer’s tax return; they are not normally paid to a broker as a condition for releasing the broker-held balance. If ETFinance, a supposed recovery agent, or a salesperson makes such a demand, preserve the messages and do not send another payment.
How to check ETFinance before depositing
- Identify the operator. Copy the full legal name from the current client agreement, not just the brand name.
- Check the regulator. Search the official CySEC register, or the register of the regulator named in the agreement.
- Match the domain. Confirm that the precise website, email domain and telephone details are listed by the regulator.
- Read the withdrawal clause. Look for processing times, fees, payment-source restrictions and verification rules.
- Test support with specific questions. Ask for the current legal entity, licence status, total withdrawal fees and the destination of client funds. Vague answers are a warning.
- Start small, if independently verified. Never use rent, emergency savings or borrowed money. Make a small deposit and request a small withdrawal before increasing exposure.
- Keep evidence. Save the agreement, deposit receipt, account statements, chat transcripts and withdrawal requests.
What to do if you cannot withdraw
Do not respond by paying a new fee. First submit a written withdrawal request through the official client portal and by the broker’s published support channel. Give a clear deadline and ask for the specific contractual or regulatory basis for any refusal.

Next, contact your card issuer or bank and ask whether a payment dispute or recall is available. Card-payment deadlines can be short, so do this promptly. If cryptocurrency was used, contact the exchange or wallet provider, although crypto transfers are often difficult or impossible to reverse.
Report suspected misconduct to the relevant financial regulator and to law enforcement where appropriate. Be cautious with “recovery” companies that promise to retrieve the money for an upfront fee; victims of investment scams are frequently targeted a second time.
ETFinance: scam or legitimate?
The fairest conclusion is not a simple yes or no based on the brand name alone. ETFinance had a documented history as a forex and CFD brand associated with a regulated Cyprus investment firm. However, historical regulation cannot be used as evidence that the brand is currently authorised or that a particular website is genuine.
For a new customer, ETFinance should be treated as unverified until its current operator, domain and licence are confirmed directly with the regulator. If those checks fail, do not deposit. If the checks pass, leveraged CFD trading remains high risk and the current terms, costs and withdrawal process still need to be reviewed.

Most importantly, any request for additional money to release money already shown in the account is a serious advance-fee warning sign. Stop paying and begin contacting your bank and the regulator instead.

Is ETFinance available to U.S. residents?
Do not assume that it is. U.S. residents should use the NFA BASIC database to verify any forex dealer or introducing broker. A European or offshore licence does not authorise a firm to serve U.S. customers.
What should I do if ETFinance asks for a withdrawal fee?
Do not pay a new deposit, advance tax, security charge or profit fee to unlock a withdrawal. Save the evidence, contact your bank or card issuer immediately, and report the matter to the relevant regulator.
Can I trust old ETFinance reviews?
Only for historical context. Reviews may describe terms, domains or ownership that are no longer current. Confirm all important information against the regulator’s register and the broker’s current legal documents.
Are forex and CFD deposits protected?
Protection depends on the legal entity, jurisdiction, account type and applicable compensation rules. A regulator’s licence is not the same as a guarantee against trading losses or every type of broker failure.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: ETFinance has a genuine historical regulatory record, but that is not enough to establish that every current ETFinance website or solicitation is legitimate. Verify the present operator and licence directly with the regulator before sending money. If you are asked to pay more to withdraw, stop immediately: that is a major scam indicator, not a normal trading cost.
